Zoe Stagg has this FANTASTIC video response to the super lame Washington Post article about the White House freaking out over the “use of” the President’s daughters in the PCRM Metro campaign (while you’re there, sign the petition for Healthier School Lunches!)
Freaking out about referencing the Obama kids? Bullshit. This is obviously an issue between the haves and have-nots. Wealthy kids eat healthy, nutritious food and the rest don’t: it’s just a fact. Let’s work to fix this issue instead of making this into something it’s not. As someone who campaigned hard for change from the last White House regime, I’m disappointed. I really hoped Obama’s White House would be more thoughtful and reflective—why is it that the daughters of American royalty get wholesome lunches but the rest of the country gets junk food? Stagg makes the excellent point that WE are the ones paying for that food. So yeah, White House, we do get a say.
There’s also an excellent piece from Stephanie Ernst on Change.org that asks, “Affluent kids get healthy choices at lunch; why not all kids?” Too true!
