Buy delicious chocolate toffee cats to support Teal Cat Project! Do it, you know you want to! »
So, back when I was a junior mint vegan, discovering the internet’s newly-burgeoning vegan bounty, I got super big into a couple of things, and those things were:
1) Ordering recycled vinyl bags from crafters in Canada. I don’t know, I went insane. If it was plastic and had an animal on it, I had to own (five of) it.
2) Buying vegan cheesecake online from questionable sources (never got the Ebola virus/ate placenta THAT I KNOW OF)
3) Eating mad amounts of truffles from Lagusta’s Luscious. Oh man, I ate me some truffles. AND HOW! I ate all the truffles because her truffles were the best, my friends. I thought my lover Lagusta disappeared along with my Canadian bag dealers and shady cheesecake, but Lagusta remains! Hooray for humanity, awesome fatness, and great stuff!
Lagusta’s Luscious now has an actual storefront and online business in New Paltz, New York (I think she used to be in Brooklyn? And had a meal delivery service? Am I making this up? I operate in a constant state of denial so it makes my memory a little wonky) and girl, her range of delicious chocolate products has EXPANDED! Caramel, chocolate, toffee, she’s got it all! Including special fancy chocolates to raise money for wonderful non-profits! For example, this month she’s selling Tabby Toffees, with a good portion of the proceeds going to our favorites, Teal Cat Project! Woohoo! The description for these delicious beasts are as follows:
A smooth and creamy milk chocolate ganache studded with crunchy toffee pieces, finished with a swirl of butterscotch and encased in a thin dark chocolate shell. 100% vegan, organic, fair-trade, and handmade in our little New Paltz, NY shop. Each box also includes three solid dark chocolate Blue Birds of Happiness, with wings painted with all-natural organic food coloring derived from blueberries.
You can order them on Lagusta’s website and while you’re there, buy everything because why the fuck not? You’re rich and skinny, let’s destroy both of those dreams in a sexy chocolate waterfall of sexiness. That sounded wrong but the general idea is to buy all the chocolate and then roll around in it until it gets super melty and then we high five and eat candy off our bodies ARE YOU IN??? Because I’m pretty sure I’m not, and I apologize for that needlessly graphic imagery.

The deal expires this weekend, so get to Vegan Cuts and buy a shirt! Only if you like deals and shirts, though. Maybe saving money and putting fabric on your body aren’t your things. That just means more awesome clothes for the rest of us.

Everything in her store is adorbs, but here are my favorite things! First of all, try not to die from the sweetness of these mini notebooks:
I want to take these tiny books and write tiny genius thoughts in them.
And I love this octopus to-do list notepad:
I don’t know if your mom is anything like mine, but my mom is ALL ABOUT to-do lists. Like, cray cray. I’m sure any to-do list enthusiast would be super happy to get this! Or get it for yourself and get your shit done in the cutest way possible.
Susie has also created a bunch of sweet recipe cards, like this elephant one:
Kick it old-school with handwritten recipes! Or bust out the typewriter and type them up. People will think you are cool.
The holidays are coming up and a nice notebook like this owl one always makes a good present:
It’s cute and useful! And in these superficial and overcrowded times, it’s all about the aesthetics of utility. That’s my word.
There’s also a ton of really pretty cards but I especially like this bird notecard set:
It’s super classy to mail people cards. Nobody does it anymore. People don’t even give cards with presents! But you give someone this card and they can stand it up like a little piece of art and you will be an old-world hero.

20 percent discount for Vegansaurus readers at Compassion Couture! »
That’s right! From Monday, Nov. 14 to Sunday, Nov. 20, enter the coupon code “VEGANSAURUS” and get 20 percent off your order at Compassion Couture! I personally have my eye on the Cri de Coeur bag below. Shiz is hot!
I recently got to meet Jill and Tracey at Vegan Drinks here in NYC and they are even more adorbs in person. We struck up a convo and negotiated this little deal for you guys! I love “VEGANSAURUS” coupon codes, it’s like we’re famous! First, they name a coupon code after you, then a sandwich, then a whole country! I’m shooting for something near the equator. I do enjoy the sun.
Oh hell yeah, this week’s Vegan Cuts is for 40 TINY BARS OF CHOCOLATE. Let me say that again, because it’s insane: FORTY TINY BARS OF CHOCOLATE. It’s $20 including shipping, for those of you interested in details.
This is perfect for anyone throwing a party with favors (wedding? rave?), or for someone who has very few children come to their door and wants to give out the most gourmet treats ever for Halloween. Don’t let that tidbit get out on the internet though, or mobs will be trampling your petunias and shit.
I’ve had this New Tree stuff before and I rather quite like it. One time I was at an event where they were giving out samples and I went through the line like six times, because that’s how I roll.
Oh, and if you’re going to order 40 TINY BARS OF CHOCOLATE, you should probably send some to me. That is all.
Rescue Chocolate: greatest company ever, order everything! »
You guys all know about Rescue Chocolate, right?! If you don’t it’s probably because you’re less charitable and compassionate than I but it’s okay. I will illuminate you and in return, you owe me your first born. Now, don’t EVER EVER had a kid and we’re even stevens!
Rescue Chocolate is an all vegan chocolate company that donates 100% of their proceeds to animal rescue. HOW RAD IS THAT? And the actual chocolate? I tried it this weekend when I was in Portland (JEALOUS?) and it was SOOOOOO GOOOOOOOOD. I had the Peanut Butter Pit Bull, which I bought strictly because it has a cute-ass pit bull on it, and I was expecting to LIKE it but I LOVED it! Usually dark chocolate is just too bitter for me because I’m a delicate flower but this was SO good — peanut butter mixed with rice krispies (SO SMART) and then coated with creamy dark chocolate. It tasted like a high-class Butterfinger and you know what they say about those things: If you lay a finger on my Butterfinger, I’ll murder your whole family.
Inside pic of a PBPB, GIVE IT TO ME:
UPDATE 9/2/11: I am bummed to find out that Rescue Chocolate isn’t on the Food Empowerment Project’s list of places that don’t use slave labor to get their chocolate. I am sorry I didn’t check the list first, because it’s such a good guide and I really do want to support places that are guaranteed happy for everyone. Rescue Chocolate, please use the good stuff so I can go back to ordering massive quantities on the reg!
The Teal Cat Project, put together by vegan geniuses Isa Chandra Moskowitz and Denise Muller is AWESOME. They buy a bunch of cat tchotchke from thrift stores and the like (or you can donate some!), then spray-paint them teal (the best color, no contest), then sell these sparkly, snazzy new cats to you for $25. All the money goes to help real cats in the ghetto! Or in suburbia! Or from mansions! Kidding, not those mansion cats, they’re doing A-OK.
The cats are limited, and I have this sinking feeling that they’re almost out, and I’m finna buy one soooo if you want in, DO IT TO IT. And if you don’t make the cut (screw-up!), then you can follow them on Twitter and find out when the next run will happen.
