Thanksgiving 2011: Where to pick up your dinners and desserts in the S.F. Bay Area! »
This post has all of your Thanksgiving takeout/delivery options! Meave made a list of places you can go out to eat on the big day, so if you’re more of a “have enough strength and patience to leave your bed” person, check out her list. Bay Area Bites also has a great Bay Area vegan Thanksgiving post up, so check that out, too. Also, if you know of any places we missed, please let us know!
Now, let’s eat! Or, at least, prepare to!
Whole Foods has a Thanksgiving vegan meal deal option at all locations! 1) That’s the SADDEST picture, it doesn’t look like that, I don’t know what’s wrong with them. 2) For ordering, figure out your most convenient store, and make it happen, cap’n!
Andronico’s also does a vegan meal deal! It’s really super great, and they’re all going out of business, so you can either support them by ordering the meal, or give ‘em the bird by not. Your call!
Philip Gelb, an Oakland-based vegan chef, says that he’s available for deliveries in the days leading up to Thanksgiving. If you want to hear all about what he’s offering or perhaps work out a special request with him, send an email!
You can, “Pre-order your delicious vegan/non-gmo Tofu Roast for the holidays at any of our markets this weekend!” says Hodo Soy Beanery on Twitter! You can find their market locations on their website.
Now, for the more important part of the day: Desserts!
Berkeley’s Cinnaholic has holiday flavors! Pumpkin spice and eggnog frostings, and toppings like gingersnaps, candy cane pieces, and peppermint “Oreos.”
Oakland-based vegan bakeries Fat Bottom Bakery and Idle Hands Bakery will have special holiday treats! Look for pumpkin cupcakes with vegan cream cheese frosting from the ladies of FBB, and Idle Hands is offering spice cake (gluten-free option available) or pumpkin chocolate chip cake.
Souley Vegan is also doing pies and a $14 SWEET POTATO CHEESECAKE! (See info above for menu and how to order!)
San Francisco’s Mission Pie is doing a $20 apple-cranberry crumb-top pie for pick-up! Must order by Sunday, Nov. 20.
Want to bring some stellar raw treats to the table? Don’t DIY it—unless you’re a pro/glutton for punishment (wrong kind of glutton on Thanksgiving!)—go for the large selection of Cafe Gratitude holiday pies, OR support a smaller local venture that’s equally delicious (if not more so!) and pick up a Side Saddle Kitchen Thanksgiving pies! They’ve got maple pecan, pumpkin, and a chili chocolate torte! SO DELICIOUS.
If you’re last minute-ish, Whole Foods and Rainbow will both have pies up until the day before/of. Get your scrumptious dessert on, Last-Minute Lazy!
You guys know that Isa and Terry have a VEGAN PIE COOKBOOK coming out and that it’s up for preview on Amazon?? And, they are generous souls indeed because they’re sharing this recipe for Old Fashioned Chocolate Pudding Pie WITH US EXCLUSIVELY. J/K, any idiot with an internet connection can get it but still, aren’t you glad that we’re the idiots who told you about it?? I cannot wait to get a copy of Vegan Pie in the Sky in my hot little hands, OH MY! (I’m rhymin without even trymin!)
I’ve pre-ordered my copy and you should too because it’s motherfucking pie season, yo! Let’s bake, bitches.
Now, a song.
What I would give if I could live inside that piiiie?? What would I pay for a warm slice in my tum? Bet you at Safeway they have a ton but I can’t buy them, they’re not vegan! Slices of heaven! Pie is the shit! Ugh, neverMIIIIIIND. I guess I’ll have to make it myself, look at the internet and find some recipes. Like what is a Rhubarb and why does it… what’s the word? Taste like crap when not in a piiiiie?!
Okay, I’ll stop. I am so high on Theraflu right now, you have no idea. Or I guess if you read the above passage, you really do. xoxox
Vegan peach pie! It’s Fourth of July weekend, which means SUMMER IS HERE and also PIE TIME, so let’s all make some pies. I’m on strawberry-rhubarb patrol, myself. Summer fruit! Summer dessert! The best! What are you all making?

Eat this NOW: cupcakes and pie in a jar from Fox & Fawn Bakehouse! »
You gotta eat these cupcakes right now. Fox & Fawn Bakehouse make honestly some of the best cupcakes I’ve ever eaten in my life! I know I say that almost every time I write about anything (best ass-kicking of my life! best lobotomy of my life! best shit sandwich of my life!) but for real, I really really really mean it this time, for real! The cake was spongy and light, and the frosting was sweet but not cloying. Deeeeeelicious. Man, I could eat a few right now and that’s no joke! These are the cupcakes you wish you could make but you just don’t have the skillz to pay the cupcake billz. Speaking of honesty, I honestly have no clue how my fingers haven’t fallen off from all the typing I’ve done in the past month. The fact that I can still walk upright and (kinda) speak English are miracles.
Anyway, you will not regret getting these cupcakes into your mouth, so go ahead and order from them immediately. Oh, and the pie in a jar? RIDICULOUS. It’s a PIE in a JAR and it’s the perfect wedding favor, housewarming gift, present to yourself for making it through the day. Also, Fox and Fawn Bakehouse prices are extremely reasonable! $24 for a dozen is only $2 per cupcake and that’s way less than what you spend in a store. THE DEAL! It is AMAZING! So order a bunch of stuff and fan them on Facebook and generally just eat the shit out of their goodies because even though I got some for free (doesn’t guarantee a good review or even a review period), I’m totally planning on ordering cupcakes from them and PAYING. This is the Real Deal, people, because I don’t like to pay for shit, ask anyone. I mean, ANYONE.
Oh and if you’re not into special ordering things (I don’t know why this would be the case but maybe you’re too poor or don’t think you’re special enough), you can track them down at the Benicia Farmers’ Market, where they’ve been selling out!
Plus, look at this damn logo:

Pie via Madame Furie! This pie (meaning one like it maybe) can be yours!
When I put out a call last week for a vegan cherpumple, little did I know, Megan at Down Home Vegan had already made it! It looks like the most awesome pain-in-the-ass EVER and I want it. Megan, you are a mad genius and I want to give you so many high fives, you have no idea. CHERPUMPLE!
ANOTHER crazy holiday food challenge: veganize “the cherpumple”, a ridiculous concoction that’s a three layer cake with each layer being a different flavor of cake. You’re thinking, that’s not so ridiculous, right? WRONG! Each cake layer has a different kind of pie BAKED INTO IT. Insanity! It’s basically the sweet cake equivalent of the meat cake. NOW, who will veganize this!? On the service, it’s not as much of a challenge as the meat cake because well, there’s no meat in it, BUT THINK OF THE REWARDS! It’s SIX desserts in ONE! Holy Mother! If you do make, please let me know, so I can give you some sort of prize. The prize will most likely be an email that says WOW YOU ARE AWESOME but it might be even better. Like a naked photo. Or a chicken. And me hugging. What.

Vegans represent! Which of you are bold enough to enter the latest battle in the SF Food Wars? I hope the answer is: A LOT OF US VEGANS!! Remember, previous prize-takers include Friends of Vegansaurus Cinnaholic and Fat Bottom Bakery.
Visit the SF Food Wars site for details. Make us proud!
