Two San Francisco vegan events to be aware of, OK?  »

First, this Saturday there’s a vegan cupcake-off in Oakland and you’re invited.

And on Thursday, June 16, Patxi’s is having a VEGAN PIZZA FEST. Plus, they have a contest that’s up beforehand where you can win prizes for creating magical vegan pizzas. Or something like that, I don’t know the total details, but go read about it!

SO THERE YOU HAVE IT. CUPCAKES AND PIZZA, what more do you people want!? Make it happen, cap’n!

For further excitement… here’s a CUPCAKE:

and some PIZZA:

Patxi’s Chicago Pizza is opening in the Inner Sunset!  »

So many incredible and amazing things come out of Chicago. Top 5: The Handlebar, Sultan’s Market, Mercy for Animals, me (I’m actually from the Bay Area, but I lived there for three years) and CHICAGO-STYLE PIZZA! I had it a few times before I went vegan, and man, is it decadent (by which I mean super, amazingly delicious)! Now that I live in San Francisco, I no longer have to go without, because everything is veganized here!

Although I haven’t eaten at Patxi’s Chicago Pizza yet, that my friends, is about to change. They are opening up a new location in the Inner Sunset! That’s almost right by my apartment! I can get some exercise walking over there before I gorge on a 5,000-calorie pizza (junk food is junk food—actually I’m TOTALLY in denial about that. The onion rings I just devoured were HELLA HEALTHY. My body is a temple and it is just thriving!).

Patxi’s is opening its fourth location late this summer/possibly fall, at Ninth Avenue and Irving Street. My apartment JUST SO happens to be conveniently located between Escape From New York and the future Patxi’s. I can get my daily serving of fruits and vegetables from pizza alone, can’t I? Yes? Goodbye outside world, I’m only leaving the house to eat pizza. Or pay the delivery guy. Or go to work to pay for said pizza. Actually, this is beginning to sound like the life I currently lead.

While trying to find vegan Chicago-style pizza IN Chicago, I stumbled upon this recipe from Quarrygirl. FUCK YES.

Patxi’s will be located at 822 Irving St. and its first East Bay location will open June 15 in Lafayette, at 3577 Mt. Diablo Blvd.! Lafayette?
OMG, how could I forget about OLD STYLE??? I wonder if Patxi’s can get a hold of this delicious beverage for the complete Chicago experience?

I think everyone knows by now, but if you don’t, Patxi’s has vegan deep-dish pizza made with Daiya cheese and it’s the mickey fickey bomb. OH ALSO: they hella deliver. With two locations in SF, they have most of the city covered. They’re also in Palo Alto so all you dorks are covered too, but probably not you poor people in East Palo Alto. SORRY, try being born rich! That’s the only thing that will save you now! Moving on: Some Steves I know are hella persnickety about shiz and if you like stuff to taste its best, you’ll heed his ordering how-to:

It takes a really long time for them to make the deep dish (worth it, though!), usually around 40 minutes. But you can call ahead before you come in, and they’ll start making it for you, even if you’re going to sit down and eat there. Not everyone is impatient but sometimes you want the slow, leisurely part of the dinner to happen after you’ve stuffed your face and you’re no longer an inch away from cannibalizing your unsuspecting dinner date. You can also have them prepare a pizza but not bake it, then you bring it home and bake it whenever you want. I’ve never done this, so I have no idea how it turns out. Point is, they are flexible and they know how busy and important you are.

If you’re like me and just want to be fat and happy ASAPly, have them deliver to your face and then eat it all. And by eat it all, I mean you’ll be lucky if you get through a piece HOLY SHIT SO BIG AND FILLING. It’s a little expensive but you have to consider that it’ll provide enough sustenance to get you through the zombie apocalypse.
Let’s hear it for Chicago-style deep-dish vegan pizza in San Francisco! Some dreams do come true! Not like the ones where you live in a pink mansion in Malibu surrounded by Nagels but at this point, I’ll takes what I can gets.

Patxi’s Chicago Pizza (two SF locations, one in Palo Alto RICH KIDS NEED PIZZA TOO) has shown interest in serving vegan pizza (!!!). And we can help the process by letting them know that we’ll eat TONS OF IT.
Fatties, you know what this means. Go to Patxi’s Get Satisfaction page and click “I’m interested” (You can sign in with your Facebook or Twitter accounts so CALM DOWN, lazy!) and pretty soon we’ll have vegan deep dish pizza in SF! AHHH!!!!!!
(Thanks to Virag for the heads-up!)
UPDATE!!!! Paxti’s just replied on the Get Satisfaction thread… THERE WILL BE VEGAN PIZZA!!!!:
Hello everyone! We are absolutely going to add Daiya cheese - and soon. Here’s the deal: we’ve tested out the cheese and have placed the order. We are also in the process of updating our menu. The Daiya cheese will be replacing our soy cheese option on the menu (and that will be reflected on the new menu). However, we will have the Daiya cheese “live” before the new menu is published. The day we do the switchover to the Daiya vegan cheese, we’ll Tweet it, post it here, and post it on our facebook page. So follow us on twitter to be the first to know. All of our crust and sauce is already vegan, so this cheese is the last component for the truly vegan pizza. We’ve been wanting to do this for a long time, but until Daiya came along, the quality was just not there. So, we’re super excited to be able to do a vegan pie for all of you vegan pizza lovers!!! Expect the announcement before the end of May!
