Guys, I was looking on Finding Vegan for some food porn to share and I couldn’t decide which of these hybrids sounds cooler! So I thought I’d share them all. Let’s make it a smackdown! Which one is most exciting?
First up: Meatloaf Cupcakes from That Was Vegan? These might be my top pick in terms of what I wish was in my mouth right now.
In this corner, we have Pizza Waffles from Killer Bunnies Inc! Savory waffles are always intriguing, no?
Here we have Philly Cheesesteak Empanadas from Vegan Pandamonium! Not so crazy like a sweet thing gone savory but a cheesesteak pocket sounds perfect to me.
And finally, Lasagna Wontons from Veggies Don’t Bite! Another cultural mashup that sounds super yummy.

Babycakes NYC has a new app; Sally Draper makes gluten-free waffles! »
Babycakes NYC has a new app out and it looks like a lot of fun. I love her recipe book; I actually use it to make the gluten-free snowballs at Source (Jenny-fied of course), so I’m really excited about this app.

It features all my favorite things: gluten-free, vegan baking, cute uniforms, hipster music, lipstick AND CELEBRITIES talking about vegan, gluten-free baked goods! The feature everyone seems to be the most jazzed about (including myself) is Mad Men’s own Kiernan Shipka making gluten-free waffles with Ms. Babycakes herself, Erin McKenna! Sally Draper has most definitely become my favorite character on that show, and remember — I haven’t yet seen Season 5 so no spoilers or I will find you, and I will gouge your eyes out. Just kidding! That wouldn’t be very vegan of me, now would it? (I’m not kidding.)
How am I spending my Frankenstorm? Watching all the Twilights! So how apropos is this recipe from Kathy Patalsky for Bella’s Red Raspberry Waffles?! Oh so apropos! And so yummy looking. I better get cooking before they turn the dang power off.
I’ve never seen the Twilights before. First I was like, “meh,” then I was like, “YEAH!” Then I couldn’t really pay attention to the fourth one but I might try again later. I feel Bella’s pain about Team Jacob vs. Team Edward. I can’t decide either—that is, AFTER Jacob lost the weave. The one thing I don’t get though is why they like Bella? She’s fine but I’m missing the part that makes her a total magnetic force. Uh oh, Jenny will prob kill me for saying that! You see, turns out Jenny Bradley is OBSESSED with Twilight. BOOM! Blew up your spot, Jenny!

Vegan waffle party in the mission on Sunday! Let’s EAT! »

Just heard that the newly opened The Way Out Cafe at 3188 Mission at Valencia is doing a Vegan Waffle Party this Sunday.
They opened a few weeks ago and want to have lots of vegan options. Maybe Vegansaurus wants to write about the Waffle Party? I’m guessing there’s a few non vegan toppings, but I’m not sure. The waffles are vegan though! I’ll be checking it out.
Anyone know what time it starts? I don’t have my phone to call today and I’m no journalist so if someone does my job for me, let us know and FINALLY: Let’s all go!!

Waffles! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhh they’re awesome. Seriously, the smell of waffles in the morning is the best alarm clock in the world. No one wants an extra 30 minutes when you can sneak an extra waffle or five instead.
This is the best vegan waffle recipe in the world. These waffles are so good, you should serve them with a gold crown with full-on royal fanfare. They’re easy to make, too; you could just stare at the ingredients and after a while you’d have made this recipe—it’s that easy.
What do we need?
2 cups all-purpose flour
1 cup whole wheat flour
2 ½ cups soy milk
2 Tbsp. canola oil
¼ cup brown sugar
1 tsp. baking powder
¼ tsp. salt
So you don’t suffer from Baker’s Enthusiasm, before doing anything plug your waffle maker in and start preheating. Now you can make waffles as soon as your batter is ready.
There’s two ways to do this: quick but reckless, or perfectionist. The quick but reckless way is simple. Just mix all the dry ingredients together, then add in all the wet ingredients, and BOOM you’ve got waffle mix.
If you want to stroll down Perfectionist Avenue, get your flour and sieve it into a large bowl, then add your sugar, baking powder, and salt. Then get your soy milk and canola oil, mix it all up until consistent.
When mixing all the ingredients, be gentle, as if you were stroking a tiny kitten’s head. This way you get a smooth and consistent batter. If you beat or whisk your batter like an angry bionic robot, then you’ll get a bowl of froth.
Once you’re happy with your batter, pour it in your waffle maker evenly and slowly. Be careful; overspill is both a waste of the world’s greatest waffle batter and also a pain in the ass to clean up.
It should take around five minutes to cook, give or take a minute. Plate up, add your toppings, and put them in your mouth hole. Enjoy!

Do you know what happens when two kickass vegan broads meet up at a vegan bar in Brooklyn?
WAFFLES HAPPEN, THAT’S WHAT!
And awesome conversation over vegan Bloody Marys too! Your favorite East Coast badasses, Megan Rascal and Erin Red, stopped into Pine Box Rock Shop recently after hearing about their weekly Waffle Brunch (every Sunday from noon to 4 p.m.). First on the agenda were some beverages to whet our appetites—Megan enjoyed some pretty all right mimosas while Erin Red sampled PBRS’ much-hyped Bloody Marys. Good thing our voracious vegan appetites were on duty because these drinks were NOT small! The Bloody Marys were practically meals in themselves, with pickled veggies and celery and rich, layered flavors resulting in quite a kick in the pants. The mimosas were decent. The waffles were fluffy and scrumptious, and in true form we managed to sample three amazing toppings: peach compote, whiskey chocolate walnut (if I’m remembering correctly), and traditional maple syrup with Earth Balance. Holy YUM; they practically had to roll us out of there!
The venue was open and airy, and the crowd was surprisingly big and diverse for a Sunday afternoon. We enjoyed the live music and the scenery, and DEFINITELY took note of the extensive and creative cocktail menu! Pine Box Rock Shop looks like a perfect venue for vegans to bring their omni pals—fill them with waffles and convince them to go vegan over a few vegan White Russians. PERF!

There are 55 restaurants in NYC that serve shark fin soup, according to Gothamist, but there’s one that just gave it up! He says he decided to drop the item from the menu after encouragement from customers. Awesome!

Fools, that is a FAWAFFLE. It is a FALAFEL shaped like a WAFFLE. Will wonders never cease?! I’ll eat it for name alone, that’s the only reason I ever got into marshmallows. I mean, with a name like that, you gotta be good! Also, I have a feeling the deliciousness factor on the fawaffle could also be high. I think I’d want some pita or lavash involved somewhere and then also possibly maple syrup and vegan whipped cream? You say “GROSS!” I say, “That’s got possibilities!” Thinking “outside of the box” is what I’m know for, people. Also, my good looks, big ass, and potty mouth! What? The truth hurts!
DUDES! It’s National Waffle Day! We all now have a reason to get out of bed! Yipee! Why it’s waffle day in the middle of this fucking heat, I’ll never know, but I’m happy for two things:

Vegan chocolate spread round-up! »
Hello young world! Who likes chocolate? EVERYBODY! So today I present to you the three vegan chocolate spreads that are near and dear to my stomach. Warning: they are all kind of expensive. Sorry.
Let’s kick things off with I.M. Healthy chocolate soy nut butter. This is not as chocolaty delicious as the next two but for some reason I feel healthier eating this one. Maybe it’s because of the janky graphic design? It makes it feel like old-school health food. Or maybe it’s because it states “I.M. Healthy” on the label—who can say? I generally just spread this on a toasted Van’s waffle. I was actually introduced to this spread by these kids I used to babysit. They were hilarious little rich kids and they went to some fancy school where you weren’t allowed to bring any peanut butter in your lunchbox. How cruel! JK, it’s probably nice for those peanut-allergy kids, then they don’t have to worry. I can’t imagine being allergic to peanut butter! It sounds scary. Well, with this stuff, you don’t have to worry because it’s made in a peanut-free (and dairy-free and egg-free!) facility.
Next we have Dark Chocolate Dreams from Peanut Butter & Co. They actually have a sandwich shop in New York but I’ve never been—what’s wrong with me?! It’s a rhetorical question, jerks!
This chocolate peanut butter is AMAZING in a grilled banana sandwich. You just get two slices of vegan oat bread (the softer, the better), spread the chocolate peanut butter on the bread (I spread it on each piece of bread so the sandwich really sticks together), add some sliced banana and put it in a frying pan with some Earth Balance. It’s the best sandwich EVERRR. Seriously, I would eat this as my last meal on death row (btw, abolish the death penalty!).
Last but super-delicious, we have Dark Chocodream from Natural Nectar (there’s two chocolate varieties but only the dark chocolate is vegan). This stuff is like straight-up chocolate, no nuts to get in your way (that’s what she said?). It’s also the most expensive, but it’s got fair-trade ingredients (social justice isn’t cheap!). I’ve never tried it in the grilled banana sandwich but it’d probably be awesome. I just eat it on waffles and it’s great. A delightful way to start your day!
