Mob in Bulgaria attacks disabled dog »
This is so upsetting. What kind of person attacks an injured dog? It looks like he can’t even get away like the other dogs did. He’s just out there defenseless. We HAVE to help put pressure on the Bulgarian police. This is so effed up. Help Borko!
New scary undercover video from PETA. This is from a dairy farm that supplies Cabot cheese, among others:
In late 2011 and early 2012, PETA conducted an undercover investigation at Adirondack Farms, LLC, a dairy factory farm that takes 180,000 pounds of milk—intended for their calves—from approximately 1,800 cows every day in Clinton County, New York. Adirondack Farms sends that milk to Massachusetts-based Agri-Mark, Inc., the self-proclaimed “largest supplier of farm fresh milk in New England.” Agri-Mark makes Cabot and McCadam cheeses and had $900 million in 2011 sales.
It’s pretty rough stuff; Cows getting jabbed and struck with poles and canes, calves getting their horns burnt off without pain medication, gross infections left untreated, and all that awful stuff. They have a manager on tape repeatedly electro-shocking a cow in the face.
This is all for DAIRY. This is not a beef farm. Milk is not a victimless, natural byproduct cows happily produce so omnivores and vegetarians can eat cheese. Even without the animal welfare violations, look at the standard practice. Look at the way they live, hooked up to those machines, strictly confined. It’s awful.
PETA asks for your help:
Please send a quick e-mail to Agri-Mark CEO Dr. Richard Stammer and politely urge him to implement PETA’s recommendations immediately to help end the most egregious abuses of cows on cooperative members’ farms and to improve the animals’ welfare.
Help Save Toto the Dog! »
Toto the dog got kidnapped and tortured, ARG. Why are people such evil bastards?
But now the SF SPCA is taking care of him and they need your help to raise $5000 by February 10th to pay for his surgeries!
Here’s the story, according to the SPCA:
“Toto is a 12-year-old Yorkie who was stolen from his fenced-in yard. Eight months later he was returned to his owner’s doorstep, in a crate, with multiple injuries including missing front teeth and a missing left eye. His owner rushed him to a vet hospital but couldn’t afford the necessary medical procedures. Toto is now receiving care at the SF SPCA Veterinary Hospital.”
To help, click here, or make a $10 donation by texting “SPCA” to 27722.
If you don’t have the cash, you could help by spreading the word to the rich people who do, especially the 1%, they all love tiny dogs, right? Go Toto go!
Where did your holiday dead turkey come from? Mercy for Animals knows! Tastes so good with extra side of abuse! Yum, yum. Oh, and if your turkey wasn’t Butterball, just know that this abuse happens anywhere animals are treated like a commodity. I know I’ve said it before but it bears repeating, just like pretty much everything I say does. Now, I’m gonna go eat a veggie dog and cry in a corner. Now, I’m gonna go eat a veggie dog and cry in a corner.
Police academy hangs dog from flagpole, Mexico gets PISSED »
These pictures surfaced on Twitter last night along with a gagillion tweets with the hashtag #cachorroneza (Neza puppy) denouncing the abuse of the poor pup. Who would do that to a puppy? Mexico is pissed! The location of the flagpole has been identified as Colegio de la Agencia de Seguridad Estatal in the city of Neza, Mexico. What I can gather from google translate (my Spanish is rusty!), that’s a
private* police academy.
Some news sources have covered the story but there’s been no explanation from the school about WTF happened. They are however now aware of the power of social media to get the word out! It’s a great tool for civil unrest, is it not?
As terrible as this action is, the reaction from the public makes me feel hopeful that there are good people in the world who don’t think you can just do whatever you want to an animal. Go Mexico! Go Twitter!
I hope you are safe now, cachorro Neza, but I worry you are not. I will wish for the best though! You deserve a nice family and a warm bed.
*Update: Readers have told me it’s public and run by the government. Awful!
Quick, help Huey before it’s too late! »
This is so sad. Poor Huey. The roommate of this four-pound chihuahua’s human companion threw him to the ground, kicked him in the head, and PISSED ON HIM. All together now: WTF?!
The little guy is clearly in pain and probably has brain damage, and he needs your donations to help get him to a neurologist. Click here to donate, and hurry! Please. I’m gonna go donate my life savings ($50, for real, I’m broke) and cry now.
UPDATE from Megan Rascal: Some people were concerned because the Chip In page said that the date to raise money for Huey had passed. I emailed the rescue group helping Huey and here is their reply:
Thank you so much for posting about Huey! Because of the postings of Huey’s story we were able to meet the goal we needed to get Huey into a neurologist and get an MRI, etc. We are so grateful for all the caring people out there such as yourself. People can still donate and all funds will continue to go to Huey’s future care…most likely he will need continued medical care for the trauma he suffered. But know that because of you and other wonderful people that have helped Huey, he is going to get all the medical care he needs.
So if you donated, your money is still going to help Huey! Maybe if you guys remind me, we can email them in a month or so and see how he’s doing.
University of Texas is torturing animals: how you can help! »
Peta, everyone’s favorite, just exposed the disgusting treatment of animals in the University of Texas labs. It’s REALLY disturbing: they are giving sheep spinal cord injuries, burning pigs’ skin with Bunsen burners, and cutting up dogs’ colons. USEFUL and HELPFUL, for sure.
It takes one minute to email the university president with Peta’s email form. Peta has filed a complaint with the USDA. We’ll see what happens, but in the meantime please take a moment to email UT.
