Buy a t-shirt, help animals! They’re dope and available this week only! »
I totally heart these sweatshirts and tees. It’s the intersection of my love for type, clothes, and animals. The concept behind the shirts is interesting too. This site Sevenly.org runs a fundraiser each week where they sell limited edition (I think) shirts and donate $7 of each sale to the chosen charity of the week. Their goal is to raise money for the charity but also, by making things related to the charity that people can buy and wear, they raise awareness for the cause. And this week, the cause is the Humane Society! So for every shirt sold, seven bucks goes to HSUS. More importantly: you get a cool shirt! I kid, I kid. But looks like you only have until Sunday to buy so you best get on that.
How badly do we all need this scarf? That scarf is turning me into a crazy cat lady. Seriously, this morning I couldn’t give two shits about cats*. Now? Gonna adopt all of them and get them each their own crazy cat scarf so we can form a crazy cat lady and cat army and basically just lounge our dirty asses on all your clean clothes and plot your grizzly death. Lez do this, cats.
*Except for the fact that they are MAGICAL LITTLE TIGERS WHO WALK AMONGST US.
Treewool: new vegan clothing line made by rad vegan lady! »
Yes! More vegans to support and get something awesome out of it! Treewool, brought to us by the lovely Kristin Blackmore, is making its debut on Etsy! Bringing an organic, ethically sourced, adorable line of knitwear to the people! We’re particularly enamored with EVERYTHING but are loving this vest (and the model! hot stuff!!):
And that’s just the beginning! There’s so much more cuteness and we’re sure that Kristen, being an adorable design-and-textile vegan, will continue to bring the adorability and functionality and radness and yeah, everything good! And when she continues to bring it, there will be a plus-sized line and I will be the model because I’m really cute and LOVE FASHION and don’t want to be relegated to shopping exclusively at the Hefty Hideaway. Or maybe I do, HELLO FRINGE!
Check out this shirt from new vegan t-shirt company Vegan to a Tee. I’m not in love with it—I prefer this one (it’s sexy!)—but I’m fishing for angry omnivore tumblr comments! It’s the only kind of fishing I recommend.
Vaute Couture is having a BIG sale! Get up on that, fools. Coat season is coming to an end in New York but I hear it’s über-cold in SF! Besides, they got some jackets for us non-West Coasters and hey, it wouldn’t kill you to plan ahead! If history is any indication, winter will be cold.
Laura says: Laura has one and says it’s the softest best shirt on earth and she gets millions of compliments because it’s so cute and she’s very attractive and sexual in it.
A Vegan Etsy Halloween! »
Hey people, Halloween is coming up! Ever heard of it? Well I want you all to be prepared AND I want you all to support some of the craftspeople on Etsy! So here are my picks for the perfect vegan Etsy Halloween.
Check out these super-cute cupcakes from vegan baker SweetFritsy! These would make anybody happy. Especially if you know some lil’ kids you are trying to get stoked on veganism, which is my new favorite thing to do.
For some more sweets, vegan mallocreme pumpkins from PandaWithCookieBakes. These are very festive, my pals. And you got to have candies for halloween, you’ve just got to.
For something to really get you in the spirit, try some vegan caramel corn, also by SweetFritsy (with whom I think I’m in love)! Hot damn I hate caramel corn, but it’s just so classically Halloween I’ll probably buy it anyway and force children to eat it.
Last in the sweets category, pumpkin whoopie pies by shortbreadnyc (who also does custom logo cupcakes; we need some pink t-rex ones, am I right? Hint: ALWAYS)! Picture these with some hot apple cider—so Americana!
To pull things out of your mouth for a brief moment, what are you going to be for Halloween? Maybe you could use some vegan makeup to help you out! Moiminerals has created a limited edition haunted house collection for all your ghoulish makeup needs. I like “bark at the moon” because that’s a funny name and I look lovely in sparkles (pro tip: I look lovely in everything).
Now this next item isn’t really a costume, but maybe you don’t have to be one of those people that wears your costume to work on Halloween because you freak me out. It’s a shirt for the bros in the crowd by JamesAnthony. I find this shirt motherloving scary for some reason. It’s freaking me out! It’s like you’re bleeding from the neck! Bleh!
For the ladies, yous guys could wear this scary dress by ompantyom to work and then later you put your costume on for the party I’m sure you’re invited to. They are calling this a “dress,” which it very well may be—if you’re a hoebag. Put on some damn pants!
For your costume-costume, I’m hoping you don’t wear a skanky costume and go with something super-scary instead! Scary costumes rule! But now you may be asking, “Megan Rascal, how can I get laid on Halloween when I have an eyeball falling out of my head and bloody skin peeling off my arms?” Do I have an answer for you! Well, I have an answer for those of you out there looking to bang someone with a penis. There are a few scents that are known to “increase penile blood-flow,” one of those scents being pumpkin pie,* and guess what: Etsy store LittleBatch makes a roll-on vegan pumpkin pie fragrance! Congratulations!
Now I know at this point you are like, “but Megan Rascal! What will my dog wear! No Halloween costume for my dog? EMBARRASSING!” Well pals, I found this adorbs big bad wolf costume from Down Under Dog Designs. The Fig doesn’t like wearing hats or hoods, but I find these hooded costumes are still cute when the hood is down, so this should be fairly comfortable. See, I love dogs in clothes as much as the next Megan Rascal, but you’ve got to make sure your dog is comfortable!
There you have it! Happy Halloween, yall!
*Read all about it here. It’s hilarious because the others are licorice, vanilla and lavender. So that is food, food, and soap like your mom used to use. Boys! It’s OK though, baby powder increases women’s arousal. Duh, women are baby factories!
Guest review: Sway Noe Valley! »
Sway opened this summer in Noe Valley. It’s a boutique with a selection of affordable clothing chosen by a vegan buyer with great taste. Sway is part of a local chain—there are stores in Alameda, Berkeley, Concord, and Oakland—that reminds me of a less-expensive, less-trendy LF or Urban Outfitters: boho-chic styles like skinny jeans, flowered shirts, dresses, and jumpers, the store caters to the same teen-to-30-something demographic. But what struck me was the variety of vegan fashions for sale.
“We definitely offer a large array of animal-friendly shoes and belts that are fashion-forward,” says buyer Michelle Halprin. “A lot of my vegan friends—especially those coming from out of town—stock up on our non-leather shoes and bags because we are able to get the looks that are often only available in leather.”
Michelle says for as long as she can remember Sway never carried leather or any other animal products. Some of the jackets are wool and the occasional shoes leather due to costumer demand, but she buys vegan fashion whenever possible. Even Sway’s owner is vegetarian.
Not all items at Sway carry Vegan Action’s relatively new “Certified Vegan” label, outside of the purses they carry from Urban Expressions. She hopes more lines will carry the label in the future. For now, Sway’s non-leather brands include Pink Duchess, Miss Me, Soda, Qupid, Dreams, and Breckelles. Purses include sleek, buttery soft ones by Ebisu, Super Trader, Urban Expressions, and Let Them Eat Cake. This fall, find more non-leather purses by Flying Tomato and cool non-leather jackets.
Sway is located at 3979 24th St. at Noe Street. You can also follow the store on Twitter.
This is Vera Churilov’s from Nourish the Spirit’s first post at Vegansaurus. Thanks, Vera!
I came across this gem on greenlagirl.com: the perfect passive-aggressive gift for your favorite omnivore: a T-shirt detailing the environmental costs of a single cheeseburger. Awesome! Visit the blog for more background on the stats. You can buy the shirt on cafepress.com.
Ladies! It’s a vegan leather jacket round-up! »
Nothing says bad-ass quite like a faux leather jacket. LADIES, AM I RIGHT? Now that the winter is here in full swing, I recommend picking up one of these babies if you want to be hotter than Danny Zuko and the Fonz combined (except better, because you’re vegan.). [Ed. And worse because you’ve never been on Arrested Development. AH LIFE.]
Lulu’s is my own little hidden gem, and they have a decent stock of vegan shoes, bags and of course, jackets. The Motocross jacket ($54) is perfect for everyday and looks sick with a pair of aviators. Dress it up by pairing it with this Dubai Night black vegan leather clutch.
My absolute favorite faux leather jacket comes from Silence & Noise. They have a great collection of styles that can be easily found at Urban Outfitters. If you’re the hipster or brass knuckles type, I recommend the Silence & Noise Studded Faux Moto jacket ($148). It’s durable, stylish and looks great on top of a slinky dress. [Ed: DEAR GOD THAT IS A SHORT DRESS. Lady, I’ll See You Next Tuesday.]
If you’re more of the ride-on-the-back-of-a-Vespa type, there’s the Silence & Noise Faux Leather Biker Jacket ($128). Sexy when paired with helmet.
And if a large chunk of money happened to fall out of the sky and into your pocket, then you might be interested in purchasing the crazy-expensive yet fabulously cute Stella McCartney Coated Boucle Motorcycle Jacket, now only $987 at Bergdorf Goodman’s! [Ed: This is great because I’m totally swimming in money TOO BAD FOR THE REST OF YOU SEE YOU NEXT TUESDAYS!]
Of course, you can always check out my favorite veg shoe and jacket staple, Mooshoes, which currently has a black unisex bomber jacket ($165). Other rad sites with more awesome jackets are veganessentials.com and alternativeoutfitters. Please check them out and report back if there is any cuteness because I’ve got to go eat a sandwich. Cheers!
