It’s time once again to veganize BART!  »

Last year your votes helped place some great ads from the Factory Farming Awareness Coalition on BART. Now you can help FFAC get a new round of free BART advertising this year by voting again via the BART Blue Sky program Facebook poll.

Voting closes on Sunday, May 12, and the top three finishers will receive $50,000 worth of BART ads in stations and onboard trains. All voters can also enter to win a $500 Clipper card.

If you want to see more ads like this during your commute, get clicking! Help out FFAC and promote cruelty-free living.

Win a Copy of “Artisan Vegan Cheese” from Vegan Mainstream  »

You know what’s hot right now? This book. Look for a review here on Vegansaurus at some point in the near future but in the meantime, don’t miss out on the trendiest trend in veganism since kale chips: culturing your own non-dairy goodness.

Here’s what’s up: This week, Vegan Mainstream is giving away five copies of the cookbook so you too can have little pet food/bacteria cultures and try to figure out what part of your house is the warmest. You can enter a bunch of times.

Meanwhile, Miyoko is having a photo contest: Make food from her book (or if you don’t have the book, use the Meltable Muenster or Smoked Provolone recipes at the bottom of the page here), take a photo, and you could win A SHIPMENT of vegan cheese from Mikoyo. See a video about the contest here.

I will never win this because as y’all know I’m terrible at taking pictures of food. Also, seems damn ironic that to win the prize where you get to gorge yourself, you have to actually succeed at proving you don’t really need said prize after all. Plus, remember, these recipes take literally DAYS if not WEEKS to achieve. This Mikoyo lady is kind of a task master.

But, if you’ve got a lot of time and want to be charmed by her, watch this video of her cooking demo at the SF World Vegetarian Festival from early October. And we’ve featured Miyoko’s recipes before, so get on making that mozzarella di bufala ASAP.

Anti-fur fashion movement Pinnacle is having a design contest! With, like, famous people! I love Todd Oldham. Remember his MTV days? Sigh. I’d take House of Style over Jersey Shore any day (did I just say that? I’m out of control this morning).
The winner of the contest gets 100 pins of their design, which will ultimately lead to total fame and fortune.* Which is all that really matters. That, and not wearing fur! Because fur is gross and EW.
I would enter but I don’t want to skew the curve for everyone. I’m so nice to you guys!
*I know these things because I’m a Pisces.

CONTEST CLOSED Vegansaurus Giveaway: The Happy Herbivore cookbook!  »

When the cookbook giveaways rain, they POUR! We were lucky enough to get our hot little hands on a copy of Happy Herbivore's brand-new intuitively named cookbook, The Happy Herbivore! How very exciting! Filled with simple, tasty, and ultra-healthy recipes like chana palak masala, tamale pie, and her famous black bean brownies (believe the hype!), this book is delicious. The beauty of these recipes is that they’re by and large very simple, but also tasty and not gonna kill you with Earth Balance and fry. Although that would be a wonderful way to go LADIES, AM I RIGHT?

So, as I was saying, the talented Lindsay Nixon (aka, Ms. Happy Herbivore) delighted us with a free copy (FREEBIES!!) and we’re passing this gem onto one of you awesome, awesome, sexy people.

For a chance to win
, let me know what your spirit animal is. I choose this question because Lindsay has that cute little elephant logo and I love him/her. You can say anything but a tigerelephantrhinobunnypitbullandallkindsofdinosaurs, because that’s what I am. I will choose my second-favorite animal and that person shall be rewarded with some free shit (the cookbook, pay attention!). We’ll end this b early next week, I guess.

GAME ON!

A Vegansaurus Giveaway: Tofu, cookbook, and THE MOST AMAZING SHORTS EVER!  »

So, last week, we were invited to The Plant Cafe to enjoy a delightful lunch prepared by Nasoya and Kim Barnouin of Skinny Bitch*. The lunch was to celebrate Nasoya’s unleashing of its new website, Nasoya’s Tofu U. It’s actually super-adorable, and aimed at making tofu cooler, which frankly, tofu needs. Tofu is the Urkel to Bacon’s The Fonz. Does that make sense? Anyway, it’s totally rad and adorable so check it out!

NOW, for the exciting part! We’ve giving away a Nasoya gift pack that includes a copy of Kim’s JUST-released Skinny Bitch: Ultimate Everyday Cookbook; three coupons for free Nasoya products; a you-won’t-be-embarrassed-to-wear-it American Apparel Tofu U t-shirt, a Tofu U rucksac (best word ever), and most importantly: THESE AMAZING SHORTS WHICH CAN BE WORN SERIOUSLY OR IRONICALLY AND ARE 100 percent MIND-BLOWING AWESOMENESS:

So if you wanted to go as Lt. Dangle for Halloween, you wouldn’t have to buy  a costume because GIRRRRL, those shorts are ALL you need! If that pair of shorts were a man, I’d already be pregnant KNOW WHAT I’M SAYING. NEITHER DO I.

For a chance to win all this awesome shit, let me know what you’re gonna be for Halloween. Or your favorite fatty bitch recipe. Or a number between 1 and 2 million. WHATEVER! I’ll pick the winner with random.org anyway! Contest ends, let’s say, next Tuesday, Oct. 26. Okay, good luck!!

*As we all know, I am ill pleased with the whole Skinny Bitch thing, but Kim’s cookbook is good, with lots of healthy recipes and beautiful pictures. Also, when I asked Kim about Skinny Bitch being so super fucking gross she said that she knows you don’t have to be skinny to be healthy and that it’s a marketing thing and she’s moving toward a Healthy Bitch brand which I think is rad SO YEAH THAT’S MY STORY.

Clever readers: Use your brains to win prizes from CBC!  »

CBC’s Q program had Jonathan Safran Foer and Anthony “my conjoined twin is my ego” Bourdain on to discuss eating meat; namely, should we humans do it? You can listen to the episode here.

Now they want to know what we think, and they’ve come up with a contest to encourage everyone to be especially smart. The rules are super-simple: Go to the contest page, and post your most persuasive argument for why humans should or should not eat meat, in one sentence or less. That’s it! The winner will receive “some excellent prizes,” notably a copy of Eating Animals, and Q host Jian Ghomeshi will read the winning entry on the air!

The deadline is Thursday, Oct. 7 at 5 p.m. Eastern (2 p.m. Pacific, you forgetful geniuses), and there isn’t any language about having to live in Canada or North America at all to enter or win or anything, so wherever you are, Vegansaurus readers, you really should give it a go! Just one little sentence! Go be brilliant for us.
