"Everything’s gonna go to hell, and we’re gonna be fine—as long as the doughnuts still taste right."

Let’s take some business advice from Erin McKenna of Babycakes! Business Insider has a neat little profile of the super-successful Ms. McKenna, who confirms she’s opening bakeries in San Francisco and Chicago! Hooray!

Review: Pressed Juicery in Los Angeles  »

Do you know when the best time to travel is? The dead of winter! Seriously, plane tickets are so cheap. I’ve taken it upon my myself to whisk myself away on weekends (like any self respecting socialite) to eat visit friends near and far. Now, I’m back to report on all my meals from Chicago, to LA, to Reno! But first I gotta get some sleep — I’m not a machine. Jeez! In the meantime (while I’m catching up on SF life), here’s a roadtrip preview!

One of my favorite places I hit up in the last three weeks was Pressed Juicery in L.A. It was the spot I was most excited about checking out; I love vegetable juice, especially when it’s raw, cold-pressed, and unpasteurized. And celebrities go there! I learned of Pressed Juicery from following Hello Giggles, as the editors of that blog are always praising it. [Ed.: Jenny LOVES Hello Giggles!]

I went to the West Hollywood location, which was a long bus ride from Echo Park, but so worth it. Normally I can be kind of shy and nervous, but not when I got to the counter of this Pressed Juicery. I talked the counter guy’s ear off: I told him where I lived and worked, and how I heard about the place; he told me a story about Erin McKenna of Babycakes—all kinds of good stuff. As I felt indecisive about which juices to try, I inquired as to what his fave was, which, as seen below, is Roots 3. I asked for one with beets and he recommended the Roots 3, then told me it happens to be Sophia Rossi’s fave. SOLD!

I’m trying to detox from Reno and am pining for another one of these juices!

Where can I get raw vegetable juice in San Francisco? I always drink the Super 8 at Source and used to down gallons of the Healthy at Café Gratitude. Lately I’ve been hitting up Jamba Juice for wheatgrass shots, but where else can I go? I need reader recommendations, please!

"Blink and you’ll miss it" storefront in West Hollywood.

Pressed Juicery has three locations in Southern California: In West Hollywood at 8714 Santa Monica Blvd.; in Malibu (out of a truck!) at 3939 Cross Creek Rd.; and in Brentwood at 13050 San Vicente Blvd. #120.

Top 10 links of the week! A breezy ride through veganism!  »

Ccute animal video of the week is interrupted to bring you Ron Swanson being a dick about veggie bacon because it makes us lol. I know, vegan bacon can be realllllly good but this is still major lolz. Love that Ron Swanson! This video is crappy quality so go watch a nice version(and some more awesome Parks & Rec funny food-talking footage at Eater!]

First up: Cute Roulette! No explanation necessary. Except that last little bit about not needing an explanation. And that bit. This joke is THE BEST!

World Food Programme had a cool article, Rising Food Prices: 10 Questions Answered. Basically, it’s 10 questions about rising food prices answered. They take the topic of rising food prices, and then answer 10 questions about it.

The Washington Post (ever heard of it?) had a nice piece this week: Five Myths About Vegans by Carol J. Adams. My friend Leah linked it on her Facebook like, “a nice thing to see in the Post" and all her Facebook friends were like, "wah wah wah! Vegans are so hard to please!" And I’m like, "I was JUST as hard to please when I ate brie, bitch."

The Awl has a nice interview with the founder of Babycakes. The message is: QUIT YOUR JOB GET RICH. Also: is there a Babycakes in SF’s future?

Interesting topic from One Green Planet: Fiction Novels with AR themes. Pish, like I need another person pushing books down my throat! Leave me alone, dad!

Apparently there’s a hawk Lothario living above the city of Manhattan. This Dish is Veg has the story, and an adorable story it is. Until you’re walking down the street and BAM! Pigeon head falls out of the sky! That’s not part of the story but it happens.

Gothamist stepped up their game a bit and did a nice lil’ PSA for Farm Sanctuary! Don’t buy bunnies and duckies for Easter. It’s uncool, brah. Jesus is not down with that.

Here’s my discussion topic of the week: AOL thinks PETA’s naked chick policy is doing a bang-up job! Is this dude on crack or does he make good points?

OK here’s my secondary discussion topic of the week: Defenders of Wildlife thinks Obama totally did a disservice to all all the animals that were affected by the Gulf oil spill by ignoring them in his statement on the anniversary of the spill. What do you think?

Finally, check out THIS AWESOME HAMSTER MANSION over at Pawsome!

Babycakes is so successful, you guys; maybe our L.A. friends should go for the business tips. And send your San Francisco friends a batch of agave brownies, because we tipped you to this. And M Cafe comes highly recommended by our Brianna!

Vegan baked goods taking over: Babycakes opens in Disney World!  »

YOU GUYS! There is a Babycakes in Disney World! Can you imagine? Vegan, gluten-free, refined-sugar-free baked goods at DISNEY WORLD? News like this is what keeps us going when the bestselling cookbooks are all about dismembering animals at home. Vegan diets are the future, and our first victory will be over baked goods.

OK mrs. philosophical, but how did Babycakes even get to Orlando? Well! Disney at large, in an effort to be healthier, ended their contracts with McDonald’s. Just dumped them! And then invited, “among many, many, many others” Babycakes to be part of a healthier Disney project. Erin McKenna, being a clever and enterprising lady, agreed, and two years later, we have Babycakes Disney World!

Remember when all the promotional Disney movie toys came in Happy Meals? I remember specifically really wanting a cheap plastic Ariel toy and getting a really terrible Prince Eric toy instead. He came in a boat that did not float, and his hands were molded all poorly so he didn’t really have defined fingers. Also his skin was gray. I really hated that thing. Those days are over now, right? Or will McDonald’s continue its reign of terror even after Disney has divested itself of all that evil?

Or maybe, be quiet and be happy now, Babycakes is in Disney World!!
