NYC: Come out for boozy vegan fun this weekend! Get your discount code here!  »

imageHey friends! You KNOW I love the drank, so I’m very excited about the Better Booze Fest this coming Saturday! The run down:

The 1st annual Better Booze Festival comes to New York City on September 20, 2014 at Center548 located at 548 W. 22nd St. Attendees will enjoy two floors of tastings from a variety of brewery, winery, and liquor company brands, a selection of delectable food vendors, as well as speakers, classes, activities and entertainment throughout each session. What makes it better? All beer, wine, and liquor at the event is 100% vegetarian and vegan!

Sounds nice? Sounds nice! You can see a list of the vendors here but our favorite, Champs, will be there serving food along with Great Performances. I don’t know them but I love trying new vegan caterers! Foster Dogs NYC is on the vendors list too so I’m hoping I get to pet some cute pups! Booze and cute pups are my two favorite things!

Tickets WILL NOT be available at the door so you have to buy them here. And just because we love you guys, enter this code to get $45 admission: DrinkBetter

Ok, hope to see you there!

Isa is going on tour! Isa is going on tour! Isa is going on tour!
If you are in NYC, Nashville, Chicago, or Napa, you NEED TO GO. Here are the details from the (talented, brilliant, lovely) maniac herself:

I’m going on tour! NYC, Nashville, Chicago and Napa. I’ll be preparing a 4-course dinner on stage at City Winery, while telling the story of each dish. You’ll be eating a 4-course dinner with wine pairings. Part dinner theater, part pyrotechnic arena rock, part Borscht-belt comedy. The menu is “to be announced” but you can bet it will be amazing and since you are about to ask, there will be gluten-free options. And brussel sprouts. And cheesecake. And a few super swanky things. From my early years in Brooklyn just learning how to make my own curries, to my life in Omaha, opening a restaurant and trying to perfect a tofu cheesecake, these recipes will tell the story of my vegan life. How I went from a little girl who loved cats to a woman who has sold a million cookbooks (something like that, who’s counting?) But you’ll also learn about the intriguing properties of coconut oil, the secrets to achieving perfect grill-marks, how to make eggs out of anything and the fastest, easiest way to mince a lot of garlic. And don’t worry, no matter where you are sitting you won’t miss a thing, because there will be video screens showing the action on my cutting board. There are more details at the ticket links below. These are advanced VIP tickets, at a reduced rate, with the best seats, so snag ‘em now with the top secret ticket code “VEGANARY.”Let me know if you have any questions. Why don’t major environmental groups take aim at meat? Cowspiracy.  »

image

Cowspiracy: The Sustainability Secret is coming to NYC next week and I can’t wait to see it! I’m hoping it answers a long-time frustration of mine: why do environmental groups keep skirting the meat issue?!

Now, I don’t want to attack environmental non-profits. I really don’t. But seriously, how many “water conservation days” or Earth Days do we see promoted that barely, if at all, mention meat and dairy? When boycotting those industries is the most impactful thing an individual can do to help the environment? It’s so ridiculous and I’m so tired of it! I thought they kept diet as a side note because people are so reactionary when you threaten their precious meat, but maybe there is more to it, i.e. C.R.E.A.M.

Watch the trailer to get a little more info:

Cowspiracy is on a screening tour and as I said, it’s coming to NYC a week from today, aka August 21st! Unfortunately, the tickets are sold out. But there’s a waitlist

There are a ton of other screenings coming up all over the country, including Sacremento on August 28th and Philly on September 10th. See when there’s one near you—or plan your own screening! (apparently it’s free and easy)—here

Has anyone already seen it? What did you think? Anyone planning to see it?

Hold onto your Beer Steins, LA: Vegan Oktoberfest is Coming!

You heard that right. On October 4th, one of the most non-vegan events in a beer lover’s life is going vegan, complete with traditional German eats and bevvys. Who’s donning their best lederhosen and getting their vegan drink and eat on? Prost!
Jessica Schoech is the founder of The Vedge App, an up-and-coming app that will revolutionize the way we find veg food worldwide. She is a self-professed crunchy vegan mom (cloth diapers, anyone?), wife, and foodie, who finds the most joy in welcoming people of all backgrounds to the green side, especially vegan parents and children. You can find her on Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and at Power to the Veg! on Facebook.

NYC: Comedy night to benefit ASPCA! Have a few laughs for the sake of animals!  »

image

Hi friends! NYC standup comic and personal friend Phil Gable is back with another benefit show for the animals! This time, the money will go to ASPCA. The show, Dogs in Rehab, is in honor of the ASPCA’s canine Behavioral Rehabilitation Center in New Jersey. The center sounds AMAZING:

the first facility dedicated to providing behavioral rehabilitation for undersocialized canine victims of cruelty, such as those confiscated from puppy mills and hoarding situations. Physically healthy, fearful dogs rescued in cruelty cases conducted by the ASPCA and by other groups are eligible for treatment at the Center. Once admitted, dogs undergo an intensive rehabilitation regimen with the goal of improving their well-being and helping them become suitable for adoption.

Where: Player’s Theater Loft (West Village)
When: Friday, June 27
Tickets are $27 dollars but there are a lot of great comics and, more importantly, the full ticket price of $27 will go to the ASPCA! The last show was super-fun—lots of dog humor! I think that is my new favorite genre.
Tickets are available online only! You can’t buy them at the door. Get them now!

East Coasters: Philly VegFest is almost here!  »

image

Here ye, here ye! June 14th, the Philly VegFest this way comes! Heads up: This is a don’t-miss event!

You should know by now that your pal Megan Rascal is a native Philadelphian and I always try to share the Philly vegan goodness with yous guys. And boy, does the VegFest promise goodness! First of all, the event is FREE. Those are my four favorite letters in the perfect order (I’m sort of whatever about “reef”). Sponsored by the Humane League, there’s going to be all sorts of fun stuff like vegan food, cooking demos, and awesome vendors. Por ejemplo, the creators of the amazing vegan restaurant Vedge will be there with news of their forthcoming vegan bar! HOT DAMN. That’s so funny because “vegan” and “bar” are my two favorite words (in no particular order).

Other exciting things to look out for: Miss Rachel herself from Miss Rachel’s Vegan Pantry will be there cooking (and being awesome, but that’s a given), animal-rights juggernauts Mercy For Animals will be tabling, and Blackbird Pizzeria and HipCityVeg are just two of the super-dope food vendors lined up.

To keep up with all the announcements of more fun stuff they keep adding, follow Philly VegFest on FB. This sounds like it’ll be an amazing vegan day! Who wants to hop the Bolt bus with me on the 14th? I can make my dad pick us up at the train station and take us to Pine! He loves when I let him do stuff for me!
