Hey Portland! Tandem Treats wants to bike vegan nachos to your face! »
Check it out, Kickstarter-watchers, Tandem Treats! is a-comin’!:
Tandem Treats! will be a tandem-bike towed Vegan food cart in Portland, Oregon.
We want to feed our community with as little environmental impact as possible. All of our ingredients will be locally sourced, organic or GMO-free, and vegan, of course!
Our menu will include hot dogs, chili, nachos, sushi, kombucha, root beer, and buffalo-ranch pizza. We will also have gluten-free buns!
Tandem Treats!, pulled around by Cicada and Rocks, will be in Southeast Portland four days a week and at local events around town, offering vegan options to omnivores and herbivores alike. We are chefs and animal rights activists with a plan to win over the world with delicious vegan food.
With proceeds from this food cart, our goal is to someday open an animal sanctuary.
I love tandem bicycless. What is it about them? I wish I could buy everything from people on a tandem! Like, insurance! And … dignity! JK, that’s overpriced. But insurance, for sure.
Tandem Treats! have nice things you can get when you donate on Kickstarter and they said if we pledge $100 or more, we can get a lil’ pink dino painted on the bike! I want!
There’s a vegan taco tricycle in the Mission? Alright! »
This is big-ish news for the vegan fatties of San Francisco. Via Tablehopper, which I will copy and paste below:
There’s also a cart from Portland that has now made its way to the 415, the ~TREATMACHINE~, which the owner tells me is “a made-from-scratch vegan taco moped food cart (it’s a trike).” Look for $2 vegan tacos, featuring handmade tortillas, avocado, mango, yam, plantain, homemade sauces, and black beans. Follow its whereabouts in the Mission on Twitter.
Sounds good! I’ll happily play Sloppy Seconds to Portland for a delicious vegan taco. It looks like TREATMachine is mainly selling it on the corner of 19th and Valencia streets, and you can find out their exact schedule via Twitter. And, uh, if you show up and they’re not there, you can get vegan tacos in about 15 places within a block, so no skin off your back. TACOS TACOS TACOS.
Here’s what the thing looks like, in case you’re wondering (or wandering the streets looking for it. I don’t know, ignore me.):
Vegansaurus NYC: Muffins in Union Square! »
Fuckyeahmuffinphotoshoot! There’s a farmers market in Union Square and I passed one stand called Body and Soul (on the west side between 16th and 17th streets) that had all kinds of vegan treats! Including chocolate muffins! And blueberry corn muffins! I got one of each! They had some other muffins, a few cookies and some empanada-looking things. The muffins I got were super good. I actually preferred the blueberry corn muffin even though the other was, you know, CHOCOLATE. I must say that both muffins were kind of dry but I don’t mind that—I kind of prefer that. But I am a soda biscuit fan so it makes sense.
Look what I noticed during the photoshoot though, sad muffin!:
Don’t be sad, Mr. muffin! Well, he’s not sad anymore. Because he’s dead! Bwahahaha! Poor sad, dead muffin.
Food Carts with Vegan Options! »
These popping-up-everywhere food carts are awesome and we vegans want a piece of that sweet curry/soup/cookie/shaved ice ass. Here are the carts that we’ve sussed/are sussing out for vegan options. If you know of any other carts that cater to vegans, please let us know!! We’re willing to update constantly in the name of hungry vegans everywhere. Or at least in San Francisco.
This Friday (5 June), Sexy Soup Lady will be somewhere in the Mission. She SHOULD be “at the dead end of Linda Street off 19th Street between Valencia & Guerrero Streets,” where a lot of the food carts congregate—but we’re not positive!!—serving up a soup that we believe to be vegan! Apparently she’s thinking Carrot Ginger Coconut. YES, PLEASE!
Just found out from our friends at Mission Mission that Bike Basket Pies is the newest face in food carts! And what a delicious face it is! The proprietor wasn’t able to secure Earth Balance last weekend (and rightfully didn’t gross everyone out by using disgusting margarine!) but next time, it’s VEGANSAURUS TO THE RESCUE! Seriously, we’re working for you fools over here.
Thai Shaved Ice was spotted in Dolores Park this weekend, but you have to stay tuned to their twitter to find out where they’ll be serving up this amazing stuff next.
Magic Curry Kart always has one vegan option on hand, made with tofu and vegetarian Vietnamese “fish” sauce! I want some of that magical curry so bad right now and all I have is this stupid apple. RIDICULOUS.
Amuse Bouche SF might also have some vegan stuff. They definitely have vegetarian options (hooray!) but we’re emailing/twittering/smoke-signaling to find out and will report back our findings soon!
I think the moral of this whole story is that you have to be on twitter to find out where all the good street food eats of the world are, so if you’re not on yet, GIVE IN. It wasn’t cute when you waited five years to get a cell phone either [Ed.: MEAVE]. And while you’re at it, follow Vegansaurus too! We give away shit on our twitter sometimes so there’s extra incentive. Actually, that’s a lie but we’ll start now. Maybe. SELF-PROMOTION IS COSTLY AND EXHAUSTING.
