CONTEST CLOSED Vegansaurus Giveaway: The Happy Herbivore cookbook! »
When the cookbook giveaways rain, they POUR! We were lucky enough to get our hot little hands on a copy of Happy Herbivore's brand-new intuitively named cookbook, The Happy Herbivore! How very exciting! Filled with simple, tasty, and ultra-healthy recipes like chana palak masala, tamale pie, and her famous black bean brownies (believe the hype!), this book is delicious. The beauty of these recipes is that they’re by and large very simple, but also tasty and not gonna kill you with Earth Balance and fry. Although that would be a wonderful way to go LADIES, AM I RIGHT?
So, as I was saying, the talented Lindsay Nixon (aka, Ms. Happy Herbivore) delighted us with a free copy (FREEBIES!!) and we’re passing this gem onto one of you awesome, awesome, sexy people.
For a chance to win, let me know what your spirit animal is. I choose this question because Lindsay has that cute little elephant logo and I love him/her. You can say anything but a tigerelephantrhinobunnypitbullandallkindsofdinosaurs, because that’s what I am. I will choose my second-favorite animal and that person shall be rewarded with some free shit (the cookbook, pay attention!). We’ll end this b early next week, I guess.
CLOSED! This contest is CLOSED! Last day to enter to win a copy of The Complete Guide to Vegan Food Substitutions! »
Thanks everyone for entering! We’ll announce the winner ASAP!
Are you in the running? All you have to do is leave a comment telling Laura about your favorite vegan food! Or, guess her favorite vegan food! Whichever, just get your name in there before it’s too late! The Complete Guide to Vegan Food Substitutions is pretty great and you know you love winning things.
No lying about this weekend with so much to do! »
First, Bay Area friends, don’t forget to enter our contest to win two tickets to the premiere of Bold Native in San Francisco next Saturday, Nov. 18! The contest ends on Thursday, Nov. 11, and entering is as easy as commenting on the pertinent post with your favorite ice cream flavor. Nothing to it, this competition.
OK, this is mainly (exclusively) Los Angeles-centric, but that’s all right, we’re happy everyone’s here.
First, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Roxy Theatre on Sunset, it’s Vegan Beer Fest no. 1, as sponsored in part by Quarrygirl (hooray!)! We mentioned it once, and now it’s in a more prominent position! The pertinent details are still on other sites, however. Have lots of fun, and do consider a guest post for us!
Immediately following Beer Fest (!!), have a sober driver take you to Venice for the release party of The Kitchen and The Garden Patch cookbook, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Me & Blue, 566 Rose Ave. (at 6th Avenue). We continue to recommend this event as well—a lovely vegan cookbook and recipe samples? You are strongly encouraged to pay them a visit, yes.
Saturday and Sunday!
SF Green Fest fall 2010 has arrived! Remember last year’s? We got vegan corn dogs and saw creepy milk-soliciting, Tessa tried a preview taco from Gracias Madre, and A QUEEN spoke. Among other things.
How can this year possibly compete with solicitation and the author of Overcoming the Angry Vagina? For starters, if you have spent $10 or more at Rainbow since Nov. 1 and through Nov. 7, bring your receipt to Green Fest for free admission! Now, that is either a savings of $5, since one-day admission costs $15, or a savings of the full $15, since you were going shopping at Rainbow anyway, you vegan hippie weirdo.
Amy Goodman and Dolores Huerta and y/our state Senator Mark Leno will speak! There are a bunch of Slow Food-related speakers, too, which is why we say, go listen to some people talk about less aggravating subjects. At a skim, the food options look like Gratitude, Chad’s Grill (?), Donna’s Tamales, Star Anise Foods, and Underdog; various chocolates, bars, drinks, and produce; Tofutown North America, makers of Soyatoo! vegan whipped cream!, and our BFFs Sugar Beat Sweets!!
SF Green Fest fall 2010 will happen at the SF Concourse Exhibition Center, at 635 8th St. at Brannan Street. It’s open from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets are available online or at the door.
Have we missed anything? You should let us know, via email or a comment, and we will happily update this post. Enjoy your weekend!
Win tickets to the Bold Native premiere in SF! »
Another Vegansaurus giveaway! We are blessed.
The San Francisco premiere (fancy!) of Bold Native is on Saturday, Nov. 18, at 7 and 9:30 p.m. It’s showing at our favorite stinky movie house, the Red Vic, and Mr. Jake Conroy of the Shac 7 will be speaking with Mr. John Robbins. Tickets are just $9—but if you want to go for free, we’re giving away a pair! Just let us know your favorite vegan ice cream flavor (in honor of the ex-heir to the Baskin-Robbins fortune!) and we’ll randomly pick a winner next Thursday, Nov. 11. WOOWEE!
Here’s a trailer for the film. Watch it and then go see it and support film makers who give a shit so hopefully they can make more stuff, okay? Also, there’s sex!
[can’t see the video? watch it at vegansaurus.com!]

Vegansaurus Giveaway: Tickets to Chrissie Hynde at Bimbo’s THIS SATURDAY! »
Chrissie Hynde, we love her so. Not only is “Brass in Pocket” the preferred Karaoke song for several Vegansaurus writers, she’s a bad-ass vegan and even owns a vegan restaurant, Vegiterranean, in Ohio. How much do you want to marry this woman? The only correct answer is VERY FUCKING MUCH.
But wait! It gets better! Chrissie Hynde is performing at Bimbo’s 365 Club this Saturday and Bimbo’s is awesomely making their entire menu veg for the event. I mean, it’s no Millennium but the fact that you can eat a Boca burger and french fries and watch Chrissie Hynde be amazing just sounds really, really happy-making.
So, we’re giving away THREE PAIRS OF TICKETS to the show! Lucky you! It’s THIS Saturday, Oct. 23; doors at 8 p.m., show start at 9. For a chance to win, let me know what Chrissie Hynde song you’re gonna rock the next time you do Karaoke. And don’t say, “Back on the Chain Gang,” because that’s totally mine. I even act out laying train tracks during my rendition. It’s actually kinda poetic, I mean, the whole story of a woman on a chain gang, only there because she killed her husband and his mistress after catching them in the act. She must pay for her crime of passion by doing the hard time, but really, who can blame her!?
Alternately, just type your name in comments. I’m not picky. I’ll pick a winner randomly tomorrow evening so make sure to leave a good email address with your answer and lez do this!
If you don’t win, you can still go! And support a rad vegan artist and eat a Boca burger or two and shake your ass to her sweet, sweet sounds!
Win a pair of fancy vegan shoes by Cri de Cœur! »
This is the Luster Peep-Toe Pump in plum, and Ecosalon wants you to have it! They also (alternatively?) want you to have it in black! Yes, very fancy; if this is your kind of shoe, it is really your kind of shoe, right? Basically the vegan archetype of the peep-toe pump. To enter the contest, leave a comment at Ecosalon “about how you’d feel if you won these” shoes by Friday, Oct. 15 (one week from the contest’s start), and bang you’re in!
Luna & Larry’s Coconut Bliss in Cappuccino! PLUS FREE ICE CREAM! »
Over at veganbackpacker.com, they are hosting a Luna & Larry’s Coconut Bliss giveaway! One lucky vegan can win five coupons for free pints of Coconut Bliss. OMG! This is great timing since I was JUST about to write about my new favorite thing: the cappuccino Coconut Bliss. It’s the sheezy! Well, it’s not as amazing as the coffee-flavored ice cream I had in Italy in my pre-vegan days, but it’s the first vegan coffee-related flavor I’ve found and it hits the spot! I like my coffee ice cream to be like straight-up black coffee flavored and this is a little weak. But it’s very creamy; it has a great consistency, much better than other vegan ice creams I’ve had. Sometimes they are more icy and crunchy than creamy, but not Coconut Bliss. There is definitely a bit of coconut flavor and I’m not a superfan of coconuts, but it doesn’t bother me so don’t let the coconut turn you off. Another bonus: it’s got all fair-trade ingredients, including the coffee for the cappuccino one. Yay!
So, fatties (OK, skinnies too) go enter! And if you win, there’s no reason why you can’t share one of your FIVE free pints with, I don’t know, MEGAN RASCAL! HOLLER AT YOUR GIRL!
Have Cake, Will Travel, win a book! »
Celine of Have Cake, Will Travel has a copy of Becoming Raw: The Essential Guide to Raw Vegan Diets that she wants to give to you! All you have to do to enter it is leave a comment on her excellent, fact-filled post no later than noon on Friday, Mar. 19 (that’s Pacific time!); a winner will be selected at random. Good luck!
