Sweet Summer is still looking for a home, will you join her Facebook fan club?! Let’s make her so popular! Look how good she is at protecting the chickens’ food! Awww, what a sweet face. I want to give her hugs and turn that frown upside down!
You may remember her from this blog in December; She was rescued from almost certain death at a high-kill shelter in California. Well, it looks like she is still waiting for a family. Do you know anyone looking for a sturdy, fun-loving sweetheart? Summer is their girl!
Even if you can’t adopt Summer, please join her fan club on Facebook. She only has a dozen fans—she deserves so many more! I want her to have at least 500 by tomorrow! Let’s make it happen!

Sponsor a dear chicken this Valentine’s Day! They need love too! »

Harvest Home Sanctuary is having a sponsor-a-thon RIGHT NOW until Valentine’s Day! For $15, you can sponsor a sweet rescue chicken for one month! Select recurring payments to sponsor your pal every month! I’m partial to Little Wayne above (nickname: Pretty Ricky!) who was rescued from a hoarder last year. I just donated my $15 for Pretty Ricky and you can too!
From Harvest Home:
Among the 200 animals living at Harvest Home, 100 chickens call the sanctuary home. Our goal for this campaign is to find a sponsor for each chicken by Valentine’s Day.
For just $15 a month, you can sponsor a rescued hen or rooster. Sponsorships make marvelous gifts for your animal-loving family and friends. You can make a meaningful impact in the life of one of our adorable birds this year.
Click here to donate! Show your love and compassion this V-Day.

» Adopt Summer: She'll have a Blue Christmas without you.
OMG YOU GUYS! She looks like my Hazel! So damn cute, I will eat her face, fuck veganism! I kid, I will not eat her face, but I will nibble on that cute-ass nose if you adopt her. I’ll also bake you whatever kind of cookies you want and write you a poem. I AM SERIOUS, whatever kind of cookie, whatever kind of poem. I am your puppet! Your sexy puppet!
Please adopt Summer, I’ve met her and she’s an absolute charmer! Such a great, sweet personality, and if you need motivation to start walking or jogging again, this girl will be it. No need to make a New Year’s Resolution, this girl will be it! Plus, more kisses than you can shake a waggy pit bull tail at. Seriously, please please please consider giving the beautiful Summer a home this holiday season. You won’t regret it! Plus, cookies and poems!
From harvesthomeblog:
Six months ago today, Summer, a healthy, outgoing dog, was hours away from receiving a lethal injection at California’s highest kill animal shelter. Before it was too late for Summer, Harvest Home Sanctuary saved her from unnecessary death.
Shortly after her arrival in Stockton, Summer made her adoption debut onPetfinder.com. We were looking forward to meeting people who were interested in adopting this wonderful girl soon thereafter. Days turned in to weeks and weeks turned in to months. Sadly, we have not received a single adoption inquiry for Summer in the entire time she has been with us.
Due to limited living space for canines at the sanctuary, we can only rescue large dogs from animal shelters one at a time. At Harvest Home, we have a special place in our hearts for pit bulls. As each day passes without finding Summer a home, we lose an opportunity to save the life of another pit bull from euthanasia at a California animal shelter.
Summer has a sincere zest for life. She enjoys sprinting through green grass, bouncing around on her back legs and cuddling at bedtime. She can’t wait to find a mom, dad or family who will spoil her. To set up an appointment to meet Summer, email rescue@harvesthomeanimal.org.
By adopting Summer, you are saving two lives. Don’t miss your chance to make miracles happen.

» Harvest Home's Holiday Open House 2011! Be there on Wednesday!
We welcome members of the local business community on Wednesday, Dec. 21 at noon to attend the sanctuary’s 2011 Holiday Open House. Join us for a tour of our idyllic farm and light holiday refreshments.
Our sanctuary is an animal rescue, rehabilitation, and humane education center in California’s San Joaquin Valley. The South Stockton-based rescue organization currently operates a two-acre rescue facility that provides lifelong refuge for approximately 200 animals representing thirteen animal species.
Nestled around fertile farmland on the Delta, the sanctuary has rescued hundreds of animals from high-kill animal shelters, hoarders, foreclosure situations and cruelty investigations.
We look forward to sharing at our open house the many opportunities to support our work. Please RSVP to Christine. In the meantime, we invite you to explore Harvest Home Sanctuary.
You guys, get to Harvest Home’s Holiday Open House on Wednesday and try not to steal Daphne the bunny! I know it will take all your willpower because she is the cutiest cutie-pie who ever existed, but you have to go through proper channels to acquire a fuzzy little bunny of your own. ‘Tis the season to adopt!

Go to Thanksliving at U.C. Berkeley! Free food, people! »
If you’re in Berkeley on Wednesday, Nov. 16, and wants some FREE VEGAN FOOD, look no further than Berkeley Organization for Animal Advocacy’s Thanksliving event! These kids have got it going on, food-wise, with great companies like Gardein and Field Roast donating, so you know shiz is gonna be DELICIOUS.
The celebration takes place at UC Berkeley’s Upper Sproul from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. (not 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. as previously stated), but I bet to take full advantage of the free eats, you should probably get there on the earlier side? I know how people (read: me) get around free food, and the words “disgusting” and “insane” come to mind. Organizer Monica Chen says that it’s a particularly great event for omnis because they can try all sorts of amazing vegan options and see that a veg Thanksgiving isn’t just possible, it’s extra delicious! So, bring your grumpalump meat-mouth friends and family and show them the tasty-ass light!
And remember, all the awesome vegan Thanksgiving events everywhere, and also, where to dine out for S.F. Bay Area vegan Thanksgiving, and where to order in from (including desserts)! Including, if you’re in the S.F. Bay Area, our closest sanctuary’s celebration, the Harvest Home Sanctuary Toast to the Turkey’s, which is gonna be rad, and we’re sponsoring (!), and is coming up on Saturday, Nov. 12! Get on it!

Get tickets RIGHT NOW: Burgers & Beers event at Pyramid Brewery in Berkeley to benefit Harvest Home Sanctuary! »
On Sunday, Oct. 23, from 6 to 10 p.m., Pyramid Brewery in Berkeley is hosting a benefit party for Stockton’s rad animal rescue, Harvest Home Sanctuary. The rest of this post will be almost entirely stolen from my post over at SF Weekly. Here goes!
The evening will mainly involve eating tasty vegan burgers and piles of fries, and drinking gallons and gallons of beer. What could be better? All the money raised goes to help animals rescued from shitty factory farms or shelters. A ticket buys you a burger and fries, with beer a little extra. Fortunately, all money raised goes to Harvest Home, so you can feel good about indulging your drinking problem.
At the event, you’ll have the chance to meet the Harvest Home Animal Sanctuary Half Marathon Team, and sign up to join them. Really good marketing on their part because you’ll be all fat and drunk and they’ll be like, “Fatty! Get up on this!” and you’ll be all, “I don’t want to die before I’m 30!” Done and DONE!
Harvest Home strongly recommends buying your $15 tickets online, so then they know how many tickets to tell Pyramid, ya know? So get up on that!
Let’s all hope the burger looks something like the plant burger because I hella want to eat one so badly right now this very minute:

Harvest Home Sanctuary’s Toast to the Turkeys celebration! Buy your tickets RIGHT NOW! »
You know what’s fucking ridiculous? The fact that it’s almost 2012. It was JUST 1998, am I right?! How the hell are we almost living in the future!? I can’t handle this passage of time bullshit. Like sand through the fucking hour glass, so our the days of fucking lives passing us the fuck by.
Since it’s later in the year, that means time to talk turkey! More specifically, petting turkeys and feeding them cranberries (they love ‘em!). Harvest Home Sanctuary (one of our favorites!) is having their second annual Toast to the Turkeys Celebration on Saturday, Nov. 12 in honor of their rescued turkeys. You’ll get to poke around the sanctuary and hug everyone, have delicious vegan food and drink, and PARTY WITH THE TURKEYS. Ain’t no party like a turkey party ‘cause a turkey party has TURKEYS EATING CRANBERRIES.
Harvest Home Sanctuary is really wonderful, they provide excellent care to nearly 200 animals at their rescue and rehabilitation center in Stockton. If I were a rescued animal, I would totally want them to take care of me. It’s the lap of luxury!
Since Vegansaurus is an official sponsor, we will also be there; you can meet us and steal locks of our hair. So fun! If you want to join us in sponsoring the event, email Christine for more details! To buy tickets, head here.
Also, this is really cool: Woop Studios (the Harry Potter series* graphic designers!) created a turkey print for Harvest Home in honor of the event. A portion of the print sales will benefit their work so if you want rad art and want to support an amazing sanctuary, you will buy me yourself me AND yourself one today!
*HEARD OF THEM!? Well, maybe you haven’t.
[The turkey in the photo from last year’s celebration is named BURL: 1) Best name for a turkey ever; 2) How can people eat turkeys!? They’re little dinosaurs! A dinosaur will fuck your shit up!]

HELLO SEXY: Vegansaurus t-shirts have landed! »

HOLY CRAP, THEY’RE HERE! We’re (obviously) very excited to announce that we’re selling our first ever Vegansaurus shirts! I’ll copy and paste the info from our shirts! page below, but we’re selling a limited quantity and only through Friday, Oct. 14 (that’s only TWO WEEKS!) so you should probably get up on this as soon as you get paid. Arg! I cannot tell you how excited/proud we are that you’ll hopefully be sensually sporting these all over town.
Here’s how it’ll work:
1) You choose your favorite size and style of shirt(s). There’s either mens/unisex (s-xxxl) or fitted lady (s-xl).
2) You let us know your shirt style selection when you pay. There are two ways to do that! Either via the Amazon button on the shirts page. So easy, the future! Or, you can use PayPal—just send $25 to laura AT vegansaurus DOT com!
3) Once we shut down ordering, we’ll get to printing (silk-screened right here in San Francisco by vegan artists The Lords of Print)! Then we’ll get to shipping! So it’ll take about a month to get your shirt but then you will be so sexy!
From the shirts! page:
The official Vegansaurus t-shirt has landed from planet Great Stuff! It’s the pink dino (designed by Jonas Madden-Connor) in sexy silhouette. So sexy, so you. Limited time, limited quantity, fully awesome. The shirt is printed on non-sweatshoppy shirts right here in San Francisco by vegan artists, The Lords of Print. It’s $25, which includes shipping (!!!) in the United States (email us if you live somewhere exotic and fresh and we’ll work it out), and 30 percent of the profits from each sale goes to the wonderful Harvest Home Sanctuary. The rest of the money will be reinvested into future Vegansaurus artistic endeavors (we’ve got big plans!). And maybe we’ll buy some cupcakes or illegal fireworks or something else really great.
About the actual shirts: They’re Alternative Apparel basic tee in asphalt grey in either mens/unisex (s-xxxl) or fitted lady (s-xl) so you know they’re 1) hella cute and 2) not sewn from children’s tears and/or Dov Charney’s penis’ ego.
Order before Friday, Oct. 14 and give pink dino shirts to everyone you know for the holidays. Hell, if your family is used to getting copies of Meet Your Meat, this gift is a step toward re-kindling relationships!
Finally, I like to pretend the above animated .gif is of the same person, first slouching and then, BAM: boobs a-popping. Fun!

Check out this video guys; it’s not scary. It is a little sad. It’s a really weird phenomenon though, right? That people will raise animals like they love them and then they kill them and eat them? It’s totally perverse! The day that someone can logically explain that to me, is the day that I’m Donald Trump. That makes sense, right? It’s Friday, cut me some g-d slack!
This video is brought to us by Ian Elwood. He is a nonprofit multimedia producer, environmental activist and animal advocate based out of Oakland, California. He works and blogs at International Rivers. Go get ‘em, Ian!
