Infographic: Milk is the wackness »

Here’s a handy dandy inforgraphic all about our friend milk. See the whole thing here. Lots of interesting facts in this one. I pulled out the above section because it’s effing shocking that people consume so much more dairy than vegetables. And still the government pushes dairy. I think the public has that under control. Maybe they should go harder on the greens, hmm?

Here’s a portion of a cute infographic* from PETA. You can see the whole thing on their site. This is my favorite part though—the bonobos thing is so random and funny! Another part says turkeys pick favorite humans and run up to great them when they come around. So cute. I love animals!
*Though I don’t know if it technically counts as and infographic…?

Here’s a handy infographic about Canada’s commercial seal slaughter from the Humane Society. Check out the whole thing.
Stupid seal slaughter. Makes me so sick! But damn it, I love an infographic. I wish we could go back to middle school and just learn everything through infographics. OR osmosis. Just kidding, I’d rather die than be thirteen again. Hang in there, tweens! It gets slightly kind of better.

Mother Nature’s Pop Science Guide to Birds, from the Mother Nature Network. This is pretty dope. And there’s a crow! I love crows. God damn it I love an infographic! I want less reading and more infographing!
As you can see, this image says it’s “part 1” of Mother Nature’s Pop Science Guide to Birds. I know how people feel about sequels, but I’m pretty pumped for this one!

“What vegans actually eat” is the chart of the day! Yay! I love the rainbow. I also love that potatoes, potato skins, mashed potatoes, french fries, and hash browns each count as separate entries—whoever made this knows their foods. I’m so going to look at this next time I can’t decide what I as a vegan should eat.
Also it’s true, everyone is pretty sure we eat a lot of grass. We be herbivores! I’d digest cellulose if I could, then I’d knock some koalas off their trees and have eucalyptus breath and everything. In the meantime, I guess I have to stick with vegan cheesesteak sandwiches and Thai food.

My BFF sent me a link to the Meat Eaters Guide to Climate Change and Health, from the Environmental Working Group. As she said, while we might not like this because it says eating meat is OK in the first place, it also finally addresses how bad cheese is for the environment! There you go, vegetarians: Cheese isn’t just about torturing cows, it’s also about killing the planet! A two-for-one!
The site is geared toward meat-eaters but it outright says to eat less meat and cheese, even suggesting Meatless Monday be Cheese-less Monday as well. Plus, it’s got hella posters and graphics!
They also have a quiz about the environmental impacts of meat—I do love a quiz! Embarrassingly, I only got a 50 percent. Hey, I know it’s bad for the environment, I don’t need to know the exact numbers! Actually, the staggering numbers seem to affect the omnis when you share them, so I should know them. Whatever, YOU take the quiz. Tell me what you get!

PETA infographic: what would happen if the world went vegan? Come on, PETA-haters! It’s kind of funny! Also, this is clearly inspired by the rad gay marriage pie chart so, credit where credit is due! I’d like both on a t-shirt, each circle over a boob. Some people wear their hearts on their sleeves, I wear my opinions on my boobs! OR something. I don’t know, it’s Friday! Isn’t it? Leave me alone!

» Spill, baby, spill!
Just your weekly reminder that offshore drilling fucking sucks, and the people who demand it the loudest are fucking assholes who deserve a kick in the face. The oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico is not only an economic disaster for fisheries, but it’s a hell-on-earth for the birds and marine life who live in the Gulf and on the coast of Louisiana.
Courtesy of the New York Times comes this shocking infographic showing which species are now in peril from the spill. Want a sneak preview? “The Gulf of Mexico is the only spawning ground for the Western Atlantic population of the bluefish tuna, which is at the peak of spawning season.” America, FUCK YEAH!
The antidote to this shit is clean energy, like the offshore wind farm off Cape Cod that was approved this past week by Interior Secretary Ken Salazar. Unfortunately, groups are already suing to block its construction because they say the wind farm will block the views from their mansions endanger marine life and commerce. Because birds and fish are just choking in wind-slick from leaky wind turbines. Quick, someone call in the emergency windbreaker and visor crew! These feathers aren’t going to comb themselves back into place.

» Infographic: Top 20 countries with most endangered species

Great. I haven’t even had my coffee yet, and I’m ready to kill either myself or everyone else. I haven’t decided yet. (Although after coffee, the world will seem sparkly and full of bunnies again, and I’ll call off the doom parade. Until then: don’t cross me, human race! I’m warning you!)
Here’s an infographic showing the world’s top 20 countries by number and type of endangered species, just in case you feel like breaking off a piece of this misanthropic funk for yourself. Ecuador is No. 1, America is only No. 2, and China has some catching up to do at No. 6. Get on it, China! Keep building those coal-fired power plants and dumping industrial waste in your rivers! You can do it!
Here’s my favorite part: “About 900 species of plants and animals have gone extinct in the last five centuries, and more than 10,000 others are now on the verge of joining them.” SUPER! We are doing SO WELL! 900 species in the last five centuries vs. 10,000 in the next few years (or week). UGH.
