Our Jonas (creator of the pink dino!) made this comic about our trials and tribulations with getting food and other (literal) crap out of Hazel's mouth on walks. It's part of the genius The Comic Book Guide to the Mission, that you all need to buy, because it is awesome and will make you a better person. Purchase it and have your very own Laura (that’s my fancy new website, you like?!) and Jonas and Hazel to keep you company. SO FUN. I have nothing more to say because I woke up hella late today and bitch be scrambling HELP ME.
Get Thee to East Bay Alternative Press Festival in Berkeley TODAY! »
If you live in the Bay Area, then cram another thing onto your already-overflowing calendar, for today is the East Bay Alternative Press Festival! Why is this of interest to vegans, you ask? Well, for one, it’s location puts it in quick walking distance from Saturn Cafe, Cinnaholic, and Green Papaya, but also, Friend of Vegansaurus, Erika from Soyfucker comics is going to be there, so you can stock up on her cuss-laden vegan comics zines to give to all your friends and family this holiday season. Huzzah! Plus, our Jonas will be there with Family Style, Jen Oaks, Susie Cagle, and many more veg favorites!
What’s more, Erika came up with her own list of reasons you should check it out:
- It’s free to attend.
- Local writers and arteests.
- Zines and the such make great holiday presents.
- We have 100% less burning sage than the Telegraph Holiday Street Fair.
So, come on down! Meet some folks! Buy some presents! Eat some stuff! It’ll be a grand old time, and I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
A little self-promo because it never hurt anyone (it only just annoyed many! and still I rise!). My band (that’s right, I said BAND, I am in a BAND because I am VERY MUSICALLY TALENTED), Dino Bike, is playing at Hemlock Tavern on NEXT Sunday, Aug. 29. We do amazing shit like medleys from Top Gun and throw vegan cupcakes into the audience. Also, there might be some stripping involved and playing of cow bell by Leanne from Vaute Couture! OH and our opening band, Red Light Circuit. Oh, they’re just OPENING FOR HANSON NEXT MONTH. That’s all.
SERIOUSLY, it’s gonna be ridic. and IN ADDITION TO THE RIDICULOUSNESS:
Every penny raised will go to help pay for TPLO surgery for my dog, Hazel, who is the most beautiful, wonderful, perfect pit bull in all the land and also, ONE EXPENSIVE BITCH! This year on self-care, I’ve spent about $5 (showers are for fools! I will not conform to society’s arbitrary* standards for hygiene!) and on Hazel-care, about $6,000. So anyway, the show is only five bucks and you’re gonna get some vegan treats out of it (uh… anyone want to bake??) and I’ll pass around donation jars and you might get to see some bazoongas. Not a bad deal, at all!
Also, Jonas from Vegansaurus is in the band, and Jordan is maybe in the band. So really, it’s a Vegansaurus spectacular! And I’m gonna write this all up in The Bold Italic so if you come and make a big enough scene, your name will be in print!
Now, please, RSVP, s’il vous plaît!
YOU GUYS. This is the biggest news of all biggest news! VegWeb.com (the world’s largest and greatest veg recipe site!) JUST launched a new iPhone (and iPod Touch*!) app, The Vegan Recipe Finder. It’s freaking amazing, putting over 13,000 (!!!!) vegan recipes at your fingertips! It’s kinda like having the world’s largest cookbook in your pocket. SO FREAKING RAD. What’s more awesome? Vegansaur Jonas designed it, and often-contributor Joel developed it. Oh and I worked on it too! FULL DISCLOSURE! What’s rad about that is that the whole thing was developed and designed by VEGANS!! It’s ONLY $2.99 and every penny goes back to vegans and making the world a better place for animals. Not to get all deep on you, but that’s fucking awesome. Plus, it runs great, constantly updates with new recipes, and will keep you busy in the kitchen for days. That’s where you should be anyway, right? Now make me some pancakes!
*Actually, word on the street is that it looks pretty great on the iPad too, and as we know, the iPad is the world’s best kitchen gadget. That’s right, throw out the Kitchenaid and the Cuisinart (give ‘em to me!), and just get an iPad! Next week I’ll talk about how the iPad can replace everything in your bedroom too. Rowr! Also, gross!
Your Friday Plans: Out of Place art show! »
There is still time for you to fit this into your social schedule: there is going to be a pretty awesome art show at SPACE gallery (that’s right next to the Hemlock, on Polk St.) tonight from 8 p.m. to midnight. Nine decently awesome artists are showing work—including me (but I’m indecently awesome)!
The door fee is a paltry $3, which for the first 25 people gets them a bag of goodies. There will also be vegan pastries from Black Orchid Bakery (which we’ve been dying to try for a while now!), some DJ, and a live art battle (not entirely sure how that’s going to go down, but I think it’ll be cool)!
