The Lotus and the Artichoke is a vegan food blog inspired by the world travels of Justin P. Moore. Now, Justin wants to take his recipes and make a whole vegan cookbook! He’s started a Kickstarter campaign to fund its publication, and now is your chance to donate. The perks look nice!

Yeah, that sounds pretty yummy. The book also promises 50-plus full-page pictures. I am so down with this! I can’t handle cookbooks without pictures. I want to see what the stuff looks like!

Fruit leather, step aside. You just got your ass kicked by my new favorite flat snack: Veggie-Go’s.
Take the fruit leather you know and give it a classy, vegetable-oriented makeover, and you’ve got the sophisticated dehydrated foodstuff known as a Veggie-Go. I met these Colorado-made cuties at a street fair in Denver a few weeks ago, and after sampling each of the five flavors, I knew I had to pull the Vegansaurus card and convince the guy at the booth to give me a bunch for free. SCORE!
Verdict: The snacks are a bit thinner and more brittle than fruit leather, so you can’t do the thing where you scrape them down with your teeth, but they’ll still make you do a little dance in your chair when you remember you brought one in your lunch. My favorite flavors are Carrot Ginger and Sweet Potato Pie, but they’re all good.
Right now they’re only for sale at a couple Colorado Whole Foods, but you can order them online from Abe’s Market, which I recommend you do post-haste. Especially if you’re rich, because they are kind of pricey, like all sweet things in life: pedicures, true love, signed first editions of Alice in Wonderland, etc.
Bonus: The owners are at the tail end of a Kickstarter campaign that has a pretty sweet perk: Donate $25 or more, and you’ll not only get to sample each current flavor, you’ll get to help them pick the next flavor, too. And if you’re really feeling bossy, $1,000 will buy you the rights to create your own flavor. Jackfruit lychee jicama lime! Bam! Done! You’re welcome.

The original idea behind this anthology was going to be half vegan cartoonists, half omnis. But it got bigger and started including vegetarians and otherwise. So now it’s just a big, huge, food-themed anthology full of awesome.

The disclaimer here is that I also have a comic in it myself. I think it’s pretty good, though, and my drawings look nice. It’s based in part on this rad Quasi song. Last night I had a dream where I met Sam Coomes and told him about it and he seemed pretty cool with the whole thing.

Kickstart Pressed Juice in Colorado! »
Orange-carrot-pineapple amazingness. Fund the Kickstarter so I can have more!
Back in February, Jenny told us about how much she swooned over the raw, pressed juice at Pressed Juicery in Los Angeles. But who says only California should get all the good new-age cleansing stuff? Behold: To Colorado’s up-and-coming vegan scene, two Denver vegans are trying to add the magic of fancy, orgasmic juice. I say, Rejoice and drink juice! Also fund their Kickstarter campaign; this stuff doesn’t fall from trees!
Source Juice is the brainchild of Jaclyn and Chris Webb, a vegan couple who basically got obsessed with juicing, wanting to take it to the next level, and realized they couldn’t buy cold-pressed juice anywhere in the state. So they bought a fancy juicer and plan to bottle and sell the stuff at Denver’s monthly pop-up vegan market, yoga studios, farmer’s markets, etc.—all the places people willing to pay for uber-delicious organic juice might flock. Plus home delivery for the lazy bums.
Jaclyn gave me a little bottle of this stuff, and it’s GOOD. To quote my husband Danny: “I want to drink this juice until it comes out my eyeballs.” My other favorite thing about the project is how boot-strappy it is. The vegan scene out here in Denver is so gosh-darn scrappy and full of initiative! People don’t wait for venture capital funding or whatever, they just make things happen in a small way. And so even though we don’t have the vast selection of restaurants available in SF, LA, or NY, it makes me feel like I’m part of a movement or something.
So even if you don’t live in Colorado, consider pitching in a few bucks (the campaign ends on Friday, April 13). And if you know anyone in the area, pass this along to make it happen. JUICE!!!
The rad people of Vegan Mainstream want to make a Vegan Events app! To help you find cool vegan stuff to do wherever you are! Or as Katie explains, it will allow users to “effortlessly search a comprehensive mobile directory of vegan events by city and date, submit events for listing, and share events on social media sites like Facebook and Twitter. It will also be paired with a companion website that provides more detailed event information. And (bonus!) it will be 100 percent free for anyone to download!”
Not bad, right? They’re trying to raise the $2,000 they need for development through Kickstarter, and with an April 1 deadline they’re already halfway there. If you’ve got a few bucks to spare this week, consider giving it to this cause. Vegan Mainstream is great, this app seems awesome, and vegans should always try to help vegans. Community support!
Hey Portland! Tandem Treats wants to bike vegan nachos to your face! »

Tandem Treats! will be a tandem-bike towed Vegan food cart in Portland, Oregon.
We want to feed our community with as little environmental impact as possible. All of our ingredients will be locally sourced, organic or GMO-free, and vegan, of course!
Our menu will include hot dogs, chili, nachos, sushi, kombucha, root beer, and buffalo-ranch pizza. We will also have gluten-free buns!
Tandem Treats!, pulled around by Cicada and Rocks, will be in Southeast Portland four days a week and at local events around town, offering vegan options to omnivores and herbivores alike. We are chefs and animal rights activists with a plan to win over the world with delicious vegan food.
With proceeds from this food cart, our goal is to someday open an animal sanctuary.
I love tandem bicycless. What is it about them? I wish I could buy everything from people on a tandem! Like, insurance! And … dignity! JK, that’s overpriced. But insurance, for sure.

Help Fund a Vegan Bakery in Wisconsin! »
Compassionate Cake is a vegan bakery in Milwaukee and they need our help! And that is because they’re in the heart of dairy country and fucking representing with a vegan bakery, and all of us need to GIVE IT UP! And by IT, I mean our cold, hard cashola CHA-CHING$$$!
The owner, Jess, has been baking for a nonprofit coffee shop since the summer, and they’re fundraising to expand their kitchen so she can have a storefront, and sell vegan pastries to all the cheese-curd-loving fatties in Wisconsin! And I say that as a vegan-cheese-curd-loving fatty so NO HATE. According to the lovely Kelly Peloza:
Jess’ desserts fucking rule (she made me my birthday glitter unicorn white chocolate speculoos cheesecake!) and we need a good vegan bakery in Milwaukee! And I think they’re mailing cupcakes out to people who donate if they’re not local. Woo!

First, there’s Laura Miller with San Francisco-based Sidesaddle Kitchen (we love her and her delicious wares). She was selling at the Underground Market but then that shit was shut down by the Feds or whatever and so she’s looking for some help via Kickstarter. If you’re into tasty raw goodness, look into donating, because she’s the real deal and her product knows what’s up! She’s looking to go legit and is crowd-sourcing her funds, so if you want to be swimming in RAW VEGAN THIN MINTS, you’ll get up on that. Plus, her Kickstarter video is super super cute and great and you should watch it and then give her all your money. Sidesaddle’s trying to raise $10,000 and she has until Sunday, Aug. 21 to do it. BAM!
Second there’s Never Felt Better vegan shop in Sacramento raising money on Indie Gogo! They tried a Kickstarter earlier this year and found that maybe the amount they were asking for was a little too much from us poor vegans, so they’re going a new route and trying to raise smaller bits of cash for smaller projects. Smart! They’re currently the only all-vegan store in Northern California and I’m afraid that if we don’t support them, that they won’t make it. And they should, because they are awesome, and providing a great service, and come on, vegans! I know there are some Scrooge McDucks out there swimming around in their piles of money (invite me over! I swim really well in money!) and why not throw a few dollars to these vegan companies, DO IT TO IT. Never Felt Better is trying to raise $2,500 and they have 22 days left. BAM!
