Let’s go see Breeze Harper speak at UC Berkeley! Wednesday, Nov 16, be there. »
What are you doing on Wednesday night? Going to this lecture, obvi! We can sit next to each other. Maybe compare notes (sometimes I miss college, especially that part about being in my early twenties. Just kidding! I miss
sunning on the quad the knowledge expansion!)
Although I haven’t read Sistah Vegan yet, I have watched some of A. Breeze Harper’s videos here. I’m so excited to see her in person. Any Vegansaurus readers planning on going? How will we know to sit next to each other? I’ll be wearing the coolest shirt I now own, that’s for sure! 155 Barrows is located here. I know I’ll be leaving my apt in SF 3 hours early to ensure when I get lost, I’ll still have time to make it to the event when it starts.
In case you missed it:
What: Critical Race Approaches to Animal Rights and Veganism featuring A. Breeze Harper
When: Wednesday November 16th 6 - 7:30pm
Where: 155 Barrows (UC Berkeley Campus)
It’s free! Let’s go! And you know, Saturn Cafe is right around the corner! Beer! Vegan Nachos! This is going to be a grand night, I can tell.

Benefit for bunnies at BOTH Saturn Cafes on May 11! »
Because Jesus’ resurrection is all about the bunny rabbits, ridiculous people are like “Hey it’s Easter, I know, let’s get a pet I don’t really want because that will be hilarious!” And then oh, say, two-and-a-half weeks later they’re like, “Screw this, I didn’t realize bunnies made poop” and they give up the adorable little guy. Then the rabbit rescue people are like, “OMG I love bunnies there are so many of them now! What do we do?”
Well, if the rabbit rescue people are from either the House Rabbit Society in Richmond or The Rabbit Haven near Santa Cruz, they convince the bunny-allies at Saturn Cafe to host a fundraiser for them. Because nothing says “let’s rescue rabbits” like a giant plate of vegan nachos and a tofu breakfast burrito.* Hooray!
All you have to do to help is EAT! Bring a copy of the flyer (Berkeley | Santa Cruz) to either Saturn location anytime on Wednesday, May 11, and 10 percent of “all qualifying purchases” will go to helping the bunnies. Berkeley is open from 11 a.m. to midnight, and you can get your eat on in Santa Cruz from 11 a.m. to 3 a.m.
Not only that, if you play your cards right, you may get to talk to real live bunny-rescuers. From their keyboards to your eyeballs:
Meet representatives from the House Rabbit Society. Rub elbows with the Rabbit Center staff, founders of HRS, supervisors, educators, and other bunny enthusiasts. We’ll be there to meet and greet from 6 to 9 p.m. Sign up for our reserved tables and dine other bunny people. Or just drop in. Bring in a copy of our flyer. For more details visit, www.rabbit.org/rabbit-center or call (510) 970.7575.
This will be an OUT OF THIS WORLD event for our bunnies! Rabbit Haven volunteers will orbit in and out during the day to say Hi and thank you! Bring family and friends and make this a great fundraiser for the Rabbits of Santa Cruz County! Bring in a copy of our flyer. For more details, visit, www.therabbithaven.org or call (831) 600. 7479.
Mark your calendar! Eat food! Don’t forget the flyer! Because you read this far, more cute pictures (props to C. Parshall who took the photos of HRS bunnies from a rescue in Sacramento)!
*Those are my own personal favorite menu items, since you were wondering.
Kelly Peloza of Vegan Cookie Connoisseur is at Saturn Cafe TONIGHT! »
Yes, that’s right. I had no fucking clue. Dude, vegans! When you’re doing an event here, let a Vegansaur know! We will promote the crap out of it. Anyway, GO! Meave loved her book so much that she is baking from it for the SF Vegan Bakesale TODAY! So why not go eat your weight in oatmeal cream pies and then go meet the lady behind the vision? In case you can’t see the Facebook invite because UGH FACEBOOK, it’s at Saturn Cafe (2175 Allston Way in Berkeley) from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 15th.
Anyway, I don’t have much more to say than that as I woke up at 4 am with anxiety that nobody will come to the bakesale and I’ll have to eat all the oatmeal cream pies myself. Actually, it’s not so much anxiety as it is drinking water every hour to stretch out my stomach. Athletes prepare, people.
What are you doing TONIGHT? Melisser has plans for you! »
Melisser Elliot, of The Vegan Girl’s Guide to Life, is signing her adorably awesome book tonight! Jan. 2, from 6 to 9 p.m. at Saturn Cafe in Berkeley! Come eat delicious Saturn Cafe food, eat some (free??) treats from Sugar Beat Sweets (the vegan bakery she founded!) and buy a book! I mean, LOOK AT HOW G-D CUTE IT IS:
Get Thee to East Bay Alternative Press Festival in Berkeley TODAY! »
If you live in the Bay Area, then cram another thing onto your already-overflowing calendar, for today is the East Bay Alternative Press Festival! Why is this of interest to vegans, you ask? Well, for one, it’s location puts it in quick walking distance from Saturn Cafe, Cinnaholic, and Green Papaya, but also, Friend of Vegansaurus, Erika from Soyfucker comics is going to be there, so you can stock up on her cuss-laden vegan comics zines to give to all your friends and family this holiday season. Huzzah! Plus, our Jonas will be there with Family Style, Jen Oaks, Susie Cagle, and many more veg favorites!
What’s more, Erika came up with her own list of reasons you should check it out:
- It’s free to attend.
- Local writers and arteests.
- Zines and the such make great holiday presents.
- We have 100% less burning sage than the Telegraph Holiday Street Fair.
So, come on down! Meet some folks! Buy some presents! Eat some stuff! It’ll be a grand old time, and I can’t think of a better way to spend a Saturday afternoon.
