Bourgeois Boheme is giving Vegansaurus readers 10% off! Huzzah! »
Hey Vegansaurus pals! Guess what I’ve got for you! The awesome U.K. vegan store Bourgeois Boheme is giving us 10 percent off our orders for the months of March and April! Just enter the code VegansaurusBobo at checkout!
If you don’t remember, I actually visited the BB store on my fabulous trip to London a little while ago. I got some super great shoes that everybody compliments me on! Oh boy, do I like compliments.
It looks like the store has only gotten better. They have these great little icons to help you with your ethics!:
And Melissa is making shoes for men now? Awesome!:
I don’t know why but I love driving shoes. Right? They are so classy and not at all as unnecessary as they sound.
Ok buddies! That is your Vegansaurus perk for now! I will keep looking out for deals in the future. Enjoy!
Beyond Skin spring ‘12 line! »
Spring in England will find all the well-shod vegans wearing Beyond Skin. They’re lovely! This season there’s lots of (faux!) snakeskin, metallics, and big, bold patterns in bright colors and clean, creamy whites. They’ve got something like 37 new styles, of which I have picked six to represent. Check out all their new styles in the Beyond Skin VIP Lounge, where you can pre-order your spring shoes. (They ship at the “end of February,” so maybe next week?) And as always, Beyond Skin takes great care to ensure their shoes are eco-friendly and their production is human-friendly. They’re so ethical!
Cri de Coeur spring ‘12 line! »
I’ve been waiting for this for months (I’m a very busy girl)! The Hearts of Darkness by Cri de Coeur spring 2012 line is here. There’s a lot of cork, leopard and lace. I’m definitely always a fan of leopard print and the lace is lovely in this collection. As you can see from the bootie (ha) above, which I love, they did a similar thing with the lace as they did with crochet last year. The heels in the collection are HIGH but luckily there’s a lot of flats. You know I get cranky in any heel over two inches. And you wouldn’t like me when I’m cranky! Bonus!: all Cri de Coeur shoes are eco-friendly and ethically produced. Huzzah!

Get to work: Vegan business accessories! »
A pal of Vegansaurus just got a fancy new job and wants to know what fancy vegan shoes and accessories she should buy, so here are some of my suggestions! This is for chicks. Men, check out my men’s dress shoe round-up from last year because that list was the hotness.
I’ve said it a million times, but Beyond Skin is definitely my favorite vegan shoe brand. Eco-friendly and worker-friendly, they are also beautiful. If you want a simple pump, I love a good kitten heel like the Leona:
I have these and they look sexy, clean, and chic. The low heel makes them good for wearing for extended periods of time. They have limited sizes now (though there’s a few other colors that might be in your size), so get on that if they have yours.
If you want to go with a classic menswear look, I like oxfords like this Antique Brogue from Vegetarian Shoes on Mooshoes:
Very nice. You can go for a Katharine Hepburn style and complete the look! And be awesome!
Sorry for the bitty picture, but I like the Selene from Bourgeois Boheme:
This mary jane comes in black and brown. Black shoes are great for work but you should have at least one pair of brown shoes.
Basically, one pair of brown dress shoes, black heels, and a nice pair of oxfords is a good work shoe collection to start with. Then you can build your collection from there with some more exciting shoes! I love this new Eva flat from Beyond Skin:
I’d expect you have to break these in a little but it will be so worth it! These are very stylish but conservative enough for an office. I love these so very much. Cally says they are great too! So you know they’re great.
If you want to go taller (and cheaper), Lulu’s is a great resource. I like this GoMax Oksana pump:
I doubt I could wear these but women in offices definitely do wear shoes like this. If you can do it, go for it.
Now that we have some nice shoe options, let’s look at bags! Matt and Nat is definitely the best brand for vegan professional looking bags. I really like this laptop bag, the Creed:
This is super-pro. It’s classic but sleek and modern.
Another Matt and Nat bag, the Barnes has that whole lit professor look:
If you have a smaller laptop and want to go more feminine, check out this Taylor Satchel from Reveal:
Very pretty. But my laptop is large and in charge.
As for other things you may need, a belt is nice. I like the Garrison from The Vegan Colleciton because it has a gold buckle and I’m all about gold (silver is 90s!):
For nice wallets, Matt and Nat is again great but I’m also a big fan of Shiraleah. The Sutton wallet by Shiraleah is pretty smart:
I used to have a Shiraleah but I lost it. It was so great though, really good quality. Looks like Shiraleah has a laptop bag or two as well.
Vegan Baby Shoe Round-up! »
Laura’s pal Minty, the talented cartoonist and Vegansaurus interviewee, requested we do a vegan baby shoe round-up and I was like, “OMG that’s so funny! I was JUST looking at some vegan baby shoes!” And then Laura was like, “OMG Megan Rascal! You have a bun in the oven!” I was like, “No way, you need to have sex to get preggers!” So everything was sorted out. Except that conversation never happened. Well, it did, it was just all in my head. It’s like non-stop NPR up in there!
Moral of the story: baby shoe round-up!
These are from Silly Souls. They have a bunch of baby shoes! These are my favorite because hello they are pink high-tops!. They also have vegan baby Uggs which I think is hilarious and we should totally get these for our babies.* Minty says the most important thing with baby shoes is that they have 1. a flexible sole, and 2. traction so babies can get to steppin. I haven’t seen these in real life but the site says, “TPR outsole offers both traction and grip for bouncing and first steps for indoor or outdoor use. All Silly Souls shoes are designed with simple athletic construction and fit to offer your baby comfort, and cushioning for first bounces and steps.” So it seems like they have these concerns in mind.
As my sister would say, these IsaBooties are “so precious.” IsaBooties are really cute AND eco-friendly. Plus, their site says they are pediatrician recommended and the outsole has great traction because it’s made from the same stuff rescue dogs wear! I would get them just for that reason. The dogs part, not the doctor part. That’s just how I roll.
I don’t know much about these Native shoes but they are cute! Zappos says they are flexible for walking, etc.
These SoftStar numbers are cute and customizable! Boy, I do like to customize. My baby’s going to have customized everything!* Plus, the site says “Sof-TouchTM feather-light soles mold to your child’s foot while providing the protection of a sturdy, non-slip shoe.” Sounds good!
These Me-In-Mind shoes are adorbs because I know so many grown dudes with shoes like this. Baby and daddy can match! In a hilarious way! It says they are non-slip but doesn’t have much more info. But they are so cute!
And finally, OlsenHaus has baby shoes! I don’t know if they meet any of our requirements BUT THEY ARE OLSENHAUS! Huzzah!
*I’m really not preggers
Vegan skate shoes on the Vegan Skate Blog »
Guess what I happened upon! Vegan Skate Blog! As the name hints, it’s a blog about being vegan and skateboarding. And it’s as obsessed with shoes as I am! They recently wrote all about these Supra Dixons. I like them. I like this blog.
I actually own a skateboard. It has a big skull on the bottom. It’s covered in hardcore band stickers and totally screams “Megan Rascal!” I don’t really skate (except roller skate! Just found my pink Puma skates and Imma dust them off and take to the streets! Or parking lots. I can’t brake so that’s kind of a problem in the streets), but I know this terrible, terrible person who occasionally gets overwhelmed with guilt and gives away all his stuff to try to appease a vengeful god I guess he subscribes to, and moral of the story, he gave me his skateboard! And let me tell you, I’m a total natural. NATURAL.
Ecouterre has a list of 14 eco-friendly vegan shoe companies, for those of you who don’t like wearing
toxic plastic footballs on your feet Payless. Yay, innovations in fashion and my crippling online shopping addiction! Boo, my measly paychecks and crippling online shopping addiction!
