Time traveling back to Thanksgiving 2010.   »

Let’s do the time warp again! Remember this little number? It’s my version of a recipe that this very blog posted from another blog last year. It’s a butternut squash and mushroom tart from The Tomato Tart!

See everyone? I’m not all about fake turkeys and worrisome ingredients. I know how to cook dishes from whole foods (as in ingredients, not the store). That being said, some of you have got to be in the same boat as me, with family members that are all “everyone, OUT OF THE KITCHEN! NOW!” which is how holidays at my Grandma’s house tend to be (while the real turkey is roasting! Yikes!). So I rely on monstrous soy turkeys where all I have to do is set the oven for my vegan holiday feast [Ed. note: I thought it was GLORIOUS! Not monstrous!]. Whatever it takes to avoid bickering make the most of family time, right?

For some reason, every once and a while, I can get away with making a delicious, elbow-grease-inducing (though so worth it!) recipe like this one.

Some changes I made:

-Added a little cinnamon to the butternut squash, whilst in the food processor.
-Added about a half of a tablespoon each of cornstarch and arrowroot to the squash, instead of silken tofu.
-Caramelized a white onion, then sauteed the processed butternut squash mixture with it.
-Sauteed garlic with the mushroom topping.
-Used sherry wine instead of sherry vinegar with the mushrooms.
-Used olive oil instead of Earth Balance for everything except the crust.

Overall, it’s a stellar recipe whether you use my modifications or not. To tell you the truth, on Thanksgiving I made the original version of it and the next day I changed it up. What can I say? At twenty-nine (last year) I was the the youngest person home for the holidays. I got antsy.

What a beauty!

Did you make this when you saw it up last year? Did you make any modifications? Are you going to make it this year? Tell me everything!

Sabrina of The Tomato Tart (we love her!)  is posting some delicious-looking recipes on Treehugger, and they’re all (mostly?) vegan! One of our current favorites is this faro salad with plums and olive oil that looks like the perfect summer potluck dish if we’ve ever seen one! Bring this to your next function to delight your ungrateful family and friends!

Mission Local is doing a new series in which Sabrina from the Tomato Tart (we love her!) is veganizing dishes around SF’s Mission District. SO FUCKING AWESOME.
First up: Humphry Slocombe’s (took me nine times to spell their damn name right) Secret Breakfast ice cream! The Secret Breakfast is one of the few appetizing flavors from Slocombe AND it contains bourbon, so we’re very happy she chose it! Now, off to make and eat gallons of this as it’s 10 billion degrees out and Hazel and I are panting in front of a fan in our underwear. OK, only one of us is wearing underwear. AND IT’S NOT ME. What! You gotta mix it up when you work from home!

Dear YOU GUYS!,
You gotta bid on me! For real, I mean it this time. I am showering dozens of PINK DINO COOKIES into the open mouth of my winning bidder in The Tomato Tart’s online one day only vegan bakesale for Japan.
Seriously, I have this terrible feeling that nobody has bid on my cookies (hot) and if that happens, I SWEAR TO GOD I WILL SHUT DOWN THIS FUCKING BLOG. Unless you’d like that! And then fuck it, I’ll never shut up/keep things business as usual! So, please! Bid on the cutest pink dino cookies you ever saw! And perhaps a pair of my old underwear WHO SAID THAT?
And there’s lots of other vegan stuff to bid on too, if you’re a total traitor.
Oh and if you bid $250, then we totally win because the auction will be all, BAM! You bought it NOW! Both you and Vegansaurus are THE BEST. Let’s all make out!
xoxo,Laura
P.S. To give you an idea of how awesome these cookies will be, that is a psychedelic cupcake I once made. Now, imagine that cupcake was a million times fresher. THAT IS WHAT YOU ARE GETTING.

Online bakesale for Japan! Bid on dino cookies from Vegansaurus!  »

You guys! I am participating in a blogger bakesale for Japan! You read right. This means I will be shipping many cookies to one lucky winner. The Tomato Tart (we love her!) is hosting the sale, and all bidding will take place on that site on Wednesday, Mar. 30. So, uh, you all gotta bid on my cookies. Actual cookies, not my boobs… is that slang for boobs? or maybe it’s vagina? Either way, you’re not winning those UNLESS THE PRICE IS RIGHT EMAIL ME.

What I’m auctioning off is a couple dozen vegan cookies of various flavors that will all be shaped like dinosaurs. They may be pink, if I can figure out science by then. Either way, they will look like Hell Yeah It’s Vegan’s dino pizza, just smaller and made with cookies:

Yum! See you tramps there!
