Sacramento Vegan Bakesale for Japan is THIS SATURDAY!  »

Road trip, y’all! This Saturday, Apr. 2, the fine vegans of Sacramento are putting on an insanely huge vegan bakesale to benefit MercyCorps in Japan. You’re going because not only is Sacramento the crack capital of California, it also has some insane vegan eats (Hello, brunch at Sugar Plum Bakery! and an adorable ALL-VEGAN STORE!) and because you love vegan sweet treats* and Japan! Do it to it!

Here’s their Facebook invite (RSVP!) but just in case you don’t have Facebook (Hi Mom! Oh wait, you have it, too), you can get all the details here.

Also, if you want to bake, it’s not too late! Email Toni! Woohoo! You are smart and handsome and very good at everything you do, especially baking. Now get in the kitchen and make me some adorable cat cakes (uh, if you do that, let me know so I can name my next foster dog after you).

*We hear from organizer Toni that the treats will include cookie dough cupcakes, coffee and donut cupcakes, chocolate caramel salted crunch cupcakes, black and whites, mint chocolate brownies, coffee cake, cream cheese brownies, some pb cups, brown sugar peach muffins and apple strudel, oreo cupcakes, sugar skull chocolate molds, blueberry muffins, lemon cupcakes, pumpkin chocolate chip cookies and sugar cookies. HOLY. CRAP.

The Perfect Saturday in San Francisco! YES, TODAY.  »

Hi All. It has come to my attention that today could seriously be an amazing day in San Francisco and it’s not too late for you to enjoy it. So if  don’t wanna sit around in your underwear watching instant netflix on your wii (I’m not hating because that shit is fresh), here is another alternative:

FIRST:

You get to Buffalo Exchange on Valencia Street (or any in the city if you just want the awesome deals but if you’re doing my perfect day then you’re gonna hit the one a block from my house OK) and buy tons of shit for ONE DOLLAR and the money goes to the Humane Society of the United States to help protect wild life. Fresh. You need some cute new clothes and you’re broke so do it to it. It opens at 11 a.m. so get there early for the good stuff.

Next, head down the street to Beats n Brunch by Homemade Hustle at Bollyhood Cafe. This thing has a million names and we’re not exactly sure what it is but apparently the food is hella good and includes a large vegan brunch menu with shit like French toast and vegan buttermilk pancakes and huge scrambles and all sorts of deliciousness. Plus, it’s like a block from Weird Fish so you can flip them the bird while you eat your epic vegan feast. It goes from 11 a.m. until 3 p.m. but head over right after Buffalo Exchange so the unorganized hippies (WHO SAID THAT) don’t run out of shit.

AND THEN. You go to the vegan bakesale in Dolores Park and lay in the sun, eating cupcakes. It goes from 1 to 4 p.m. so it should work into your day perfectly.

HAS ANYONE EVER GIVEN YOU SUCH A GIFT AS THIS DAY OF PLEASURE, ROMANCE, INTRIGUE, AND FUN??? You can send your panties to me now. WHY ARE YOU STILL READING AND NOT SENDING ME YOUR PANTIES? Jesus Christ, I have to do everything around here!!

There’s a vegan bakesale this Saturday from 1 to 4 p.m. in Dolores Park! It’s to help a young gentleman by the name of Brent Thurman get a bone marrow transplant. GOOD CAUSE, PEOPLE.
Either bake (email Juliana if you want to bake! or to thank her for being a friend!) or just show up and buy everything. I mean, if you get there before I do because girlfriend does not play.

Check out the spread at the San Lorenzo Valley High School Animal Rights Club Bakesale for Haitian earthquake relief! In just half an hour they raised $233! Santa Cruz County: home of super-awesome vegan activists. I wish I’d known kids as great as you when I was in high school, maybe I would’ve actually attended class. OH WELL.
Congratulations to Friend of Vegansaurus’ and HBiC Beau Broughton, and all the members of the SLVARC for their success!

Vegan bakesale for Haiti a great success!  »

Guess who went to the vegan bakesale this weekend: STALIN! Just kidding! It was me. A few pals and I headed over there Saturday afternoon. Let me tell you all about it!

Because of the rain, Mercury Cafe hosted the bakesale, and damn, was it poppin’! There were tons of people and tons of baked goods. We ended up buying kind of A LOT of stuff. The omnivores were OBSESSED with the purple sweet potato bars. They were definitely good, but my heart was taken by a delicious slice of “monkey bread.” If you are like me, this is the first you’ve ever heard of monkey bread. It is not made of monkeys, nor is it for monkeys. Monkey bread is a delightful collection of balls of dough with cinnamon sugar baked in between. Holy hell, it was ooey-gooey awesomeness! Of course I also had some yummy mini chocolate cupcakes courtesy of Sugar Beat Sweets and ever-lovely Vegansaur Jordan. I love the peanut butter frosting! It’s salty-sweet. And why do things taste so good when they are mini?! Except mini-corn; it’s not as good as regular corn. That’s right, I said it! Mini cupcakes, though, off the hizzle!

Let’s see, what else did I try—kind of everything! I’m so serious; I’m having horrible sugar withdrawal as I write. I’m half-sugar, half-human! There were super-excellent pumpkin muffins, yummy maple oat scones (the food of my people!), crazy peanut butter oat cookie things, pineapple muffins and chocolate cookies galore! There were even these Swedish cardamom buns that my Swedish friend tried; she said they tasted like childhood! Really, everybody was beyond pleased. I for one was ecstatic. I spent a lot of money, ate my feelings, and $3,375 was raised for Haiti! Yay!

The PPK has the details on other vegan bakesales for Haiti across the country.

Beautiful collage photographed and assembled by my friend Emmet (the Swedish cardamom bun taste tester!). Thanks Emmet!
