Help Beyond Skin expand their awesome vegan shoe line! »
Can’t see the video? Watch it on Vegansaurus.com!
My absolute favorite vegan shoe line, Beyond Skin, is in need of help! A manufacturer of their shoes has closed down, taking their new line with it. But there’s hope! If you donate to their Kickstarter (which is hardly a donation as you can totally get shoes!! SHOES!!), they can make this collection a reality!
A £69 donation gets you a pair of these babies in black!
I can’t say enough good things about Beyond Skin. I’ve had pairs of shoes from them that I bought like literally eight years ago and wore a million times and they’re still in great condition. They are comfortable (most of them) and don’t fall apart like so many vegan shoes! Plus they aren’t just vegan, they are people- and environmentally friendly. So I encourage you to chip in today!
Nicora Johns wants to make gorgeous vegan shoes. They want to make them domestically, with environmentally responsible materials, in beautiful, classic styles.
They’re asking for a LOT of money on Kickstarter to launch the project, which seems daunting, but isn’t this everything you could ask for in a vegan shoe? Check out the styles! I want ALL OF THEM, especially the Sylvias boot and patent Sallys lace-up, oh man. So elegant!
Seriously, if you’re into U.S.-based manufacturing, vegan fashion, environmentally responsible fashion, or beautiful shoes, you should probably support Nicora Johns. One day the only option for (new) shoes will be vegan styles, but let’s work to make that a choice, not because we’ve ruined the planet and have to fashion foot-covers out of burlap sacks and old leaves.

Krže Studio makes fancy vegan shoes! »
And they’re so exclusive we can’t even buy them yet! They look like they’re gonna be tough and pretty and totally expensive, but you know what? Quality vegan shoes aren’t cheap. Not to knock cheap vegan shoes! But generally shoes at a higher price point come with things like padded footbeds, a little arch support, and consideration that they have to be worn on actual human feet.
I’m super into the Keely booties above in black; I love that buckle underneath! The 100 percent lack of functionality, without even a pretense of usefulness! It’s so insouciant, right?
I also really like the Hazel slip-ons in this crinkly metallic orange.
If you’re going to wear a shoe with such a basic shape, you ought to get creative with the color and materials. You can wear boring shoes when you’re dead!
Krže Studio was created by Leila Tamar Kerze, who studied fashion design at college and worked for BCBG and Donald J. Pliner before striking out on her vegan own.
When can you buy these shoes? Where can you buy them? I have no answers for you. What I do know is that these shoes have a lot of attitude and I am glad people see a market for luxury vegan footwear. Leather is so passé.
Super important update!!!: Megan loves this pair! -MR

These cute vegan boots are on Groupon today! Good looking out, Kate K. I’ve never really been into combat boots but these I think I could get down with. I like the folded down thing.

Anne Hathaway’s custom vegan Tom Ford boots! »
Tom Ford did a vegan version of his spring 2013 boots for Anne Hathaway to wear at the New York premiere of Les Misérables, because she is a famous vegan movie star, and why wouldn’t Tom Ford make you, famous vegan movie star, fabulous a vegan version of his elaborate bondage-sandal boots for the premiere of your latest, biggest movie in New York City?
I’m not in love with the actual boots, but I am in love with the idea of designers accommodating their vegan movie star fans with ethically appropriate fashion pieces. Dear Anne Hathaway, please wear these to the grocery store.

Bogs footwear keeps you warm and dry in the slush! »
It’s been kind of a weather nightmare in New York as of late. I’m sure you all heard about Sandy, but then this past week we had a dang snowstorm. Seriously? Seriously. And as usual, I was completely ill-prepared for snow. I had some cheap boots on that immediately let icy cold water seep in and they have no traction so I pretty much almost slipped and died 80 times. I thought, “omg I should’ve word those boots Bogs sent me!” They sent these boots to me for free last year but the weather wasn’t that cray back then. Now, the weather is CRAY with a capital JEEZ LOUISE. Basically, it’s perfect Bogs weather.
My Bogs, picture above, are called the Charlot and they are completely vegan (obvi). Not all the boots are vegan, some have leather. But the insoles are vegan so you don’t have to worry about that. These boots are bulkier than I expected so don’t think you’ll be wearing them to the club, but they sure are rugged. And I got compliments from the girls at work, so that is always a good sign. I walked around in the slush and didn’t slip once and my feet stayed totally dry and toasty.
Here’s some nice background from Bogs:
Bogs are made with 100% natural rubber sourced fairly from Malaysia and non-toxic glue. The materials we use are die-cut to minimize waste. Our shoe boxes are made from recycled materials and are shipped from the manufacturing plants by sea to reduce our environmental impact.
They also sell a line of camouflage ”hunting” boots but I like to think of them as “wildlife photography” boots. There are a lot of other styles and colors to choose from. Bogs are great for snowy/slushy/icy/rainy days or super for you farmer/gardener types. And if you like to jump around in mud, get some Bogs and you’re good to go.
UPDATE: I got official word on which Bogs are vegan and which aren’t (because I’m the best!):
All Bogs are Vegan except the following styles (which have leather on them):
McKenna, Mason, Seymour, Hudson Buckle, Jamison Leather and Bridgeport Leather.
Everything else we make is using a mix of natural and synthetic rubber (about 80% natural) and are vegan-friendly.
And they are working on manufacturing Bogs without glue (through a new heating process) and making their antimicrobial lining on the insoles 100% organic. Look out for that next year. I’m very excited for this!
I’m so into these new(?) boots from Brave GentleMan! Not only are they hot and vegan, they are also ethically sourced. Dudes: you should all get these. I’m trying to make my pal Kevin Still get them. I’m helping him upgrade his wardrobe because I’m so nice. He didn’t even have to ask for my help. But boy does he need it! He wanted to try on cargo pants. Like, really.
