Product review: Vegan Cuts Beauty Essentials Kit! »
I love vegan cosmetics! In a past more recent than I’d like to admit, I got tripped up by the term cruelty-free on cosmetics, thinking it was an all-inclusive term meaning vegan. That, my friends, couldn’t be farther from the truth, as cruelty free cosmetics often have animal ingredients in them. If I, a long-time vegan, am having trouble with this in the store, how must new vegans feel? It’s overwhelming! With lists and lists of animal ingredients to memorize, these waters are not often easy to navigate—not only in food but in products for our faces, bods and hair as well!
Thankfully, the Vegan Beauty Essentials Kit exists, curated by Vegan Cuts! This box is filled with such fun and luxurious products, I believe vegans of all experience levels, from rookies to lifers, the curious to the die-hards, will enjoy receiving it! I excitedly tried most of the products immediately, but am saving a few for weekends on the go! Most of the products, if not all of them, are the perfect size to get through TSA, and wouldn’t take up much room in an overnight bag. I enjoy having fancy products to travel with, it adds a bit of excitement and glamour to an on-the-go routine. I can’t just waltz into the drugstore for all my trial-size, traveling needs anymore.
Let’s be real: vegan products do not come cheap, definitely not as affordable as their cruelty-full counterparts. In this respect, I enjoy having an assortment of sample sizes to try, in order to make informed decisions about which full sizes to purchase in the future. After all, what works for you may not work for me and vice versa. The Beauty Essentials kit comes with 10 -15 surprise items, and while most are sample size, a couple of them are full size!
Can’t see the video? Watch it on Vegansaurus.com!
I couldn’t recommend this kit more! And what a deal: it’s a $50 value for $27.95. Everything smells so fresh, and is catered to most skin and hair types! (Please, can someone come teach me how to use the eyeshadow, because I have never gotten the hang of that one?) [Ed. note: Megan Rascal’s adorable sister can!]
Full Disclosure: Vegan Cuts sent me the Beauty Essentials Kit to review, free of charge, but all of the opinions stated are my own. I will be purchasing many of these products after sampling them in the kit. I wouldn’t waste your time, nor mine, writing posts that do not reflect my personal experience! BECAUSE I AM THE WORST AND DROPPED THE BALL ON GETTING THIS REVIEW UP, VERSION 2.0 IS WHAT IS AVAILABLE NOW. Looks just as awesome!
Here’s the inside of March’s Beauty Box from Vegan Cuts! I’m very excited for the LVX nail polish—a full size bottle! And a pretty color. I’m also stoked about the Pangea Organics face mask. It’s got a super-long name with all these super-important sounding ingredients. Wait, let me look it up, hold please…
Found it! It’s the Japanese Matcha Tea Acai Goji Berry Facial Mask. RIGHT?! Sounds very important. My face is intrigued.
I got this for free but the box subscription is $19.99 a month, shipping included (for US addresses. International is more).
Got my Vegan Cuts Beauty Box at the end of Feb and now I’m ready to tell you all about it! Disclaimer: I got it for free, just so you know. So this box had Pacifica lip butter, Feed Your Do from Yarok, hand cream from Chandler Farm, Greenbody deodorant, Molly Rose Balm in Pickles and Ice Cream, and a lil’ candle from Birthed By Earth Candle Co.
I love the Pacifica lip stuff. It’s moisturizing and gives a slight red tint. I tested out the little Greenbody deodorant—at the gym no less—and it held up well! Obvi I was sweating but I wasn’t stinking. I also like the Chandler Farm hand cream. Normally I like a little scent in my lotion but this just absorbed super well, not greasy at all. So I like that. Still have to try the Feed Your Do…imma get on that because my do needs to get fed.
I’m sorry but I couldn’t get down with the Pickles and Ice Cream lip balm. Maybe it’s too avant garde for me but I don’t want to smell pickles all the time.
So that’s the Feb beauty box! You can sign up for the monthly box at Vegan Cuts.
Product Review: North Coast Organics deodorant! »
Trying to find a vegan deodorant that works is the worst, isn’t it? It is! But, I have good news, because North Coast Organics makes vegan deodorant that not only works, it smells fantastic too!
I bought my Death By Lavender, hand-made, organic, all-natural deodorant on Vegan Cuts, after reading Bianca Phillips’ review on Vegan Crunk! I am so pleased with it, I want to shout from the rooftops, and so this is me trying to do an internet equivalent of that.
At first I had to get used to the wetness I felt on my skin right upon contact, as it takes a short period of time to dry, but now I don’t even notice it. I really love the scent of the lavender; it’s like aromatherapy for my pits! (TMI? Too bad!) The weather in SoCal hasn’t been particularly hot though, so I don’t know how this deodorant would hold up on a scalding summer day. I consulted an Instagram friend in Texas, (@veganhouston) who said he uses this brand too, and he replied “Works great in the heat! Probably better than other brands I’ve tried.” So there you have it! Keep in mind there are two other varieties I have not used: Revolver and Naked.
I know the search for a cruelty-free deodorant that actually keeps body odor at bay can be a tedious and disappointing one, so I am stoked to share this find with you! The only time I noticed things starting to get a little stinky was when I tried to go a second day without reapplying it. (I am doing my part to conserve water by not showering every day! I am a very elegant and glamorous hippie, in case you did not know.)
You can order North Coast Organics deodorant on Vegan Cuts, as well as directly through their website! There are also trial sizes and sets available! Shout-out to Chicago’s Logan Square neighborhood, where North Coast Organics products are hand-made AND I used to live! It’s a happening place!
Hail Merry macaroons are hella cheap right now on Vegan Cuts, assuming you want a whole lot of them. A long time ago I told you how obsessed I am with these delicious confections, and like with all good celebrity relationships, time has not weakened my passion.
Here’s what you can do with the 10 bags you get for $30 (free shipping!) with this deal: Stocking stuffers for all seven dwarves, Snow White, the witch, AND the huntsman. Party favors for your softball team. Hella-easy potluck contribution. Eat them all yourself.
[Note:/ Though it might seem like we’re shilling for Vegan Cuts these days, we’re not, they’re just kicking ass with the goodies. We always let you know when we get free stuff.]
Last day to order your holiday care package from VeganCuts! »
I just realized today is your last day to buy VeganCuts holiday care package! OMG! It’s full of all kinds of marshmallows and chocolate and cookies! I’m like hella into this. I love care packages. They are the ultimate nice thing you can do for someone. I love getting care packages almost as much as I like sending them!
Vegan snack box coming to your door! »
Heads up! Vegansaurus sponsor Vegan Cuts is doing a monthly vegan snack box subscription thing and I’m pretty excited. I loved this idea when Lollihop did it but I understand they folded? I’m pretty confident Vegan Cuts can pull through though—they seem to be super successful (no, I’m totes not jealous they have twice as many FB fans as us!). Septembers box is sold out but you can apparently pre-order for October like I did.
There’s also a super-healthy vegan and gluten-free (soy-free too!) snack box subscription, Healthy Surprise. I believe we will have a review of that soon but you can read the site to get an idea about what kind of snacks come in the box.
I love snacks and I love getting things in the mail—it’s perfect! Really though, what’s better than snacks and getting stuff in the mail? Nothing!
Pretty necklaces for vegans, on sale! »
Look what delight came to my inbox today! Pretty necklaces by Design Specimen. I’m not that into the choker but I love the ones on the chains (Update: Design Specimen says they can put any charm on a chain instead of choker (and I’m sure the other way around as well), just ask!). I love all the pendents though. I think it’s because they remind me of my beautiful smushed penny collection. Speaking of which: get me smushed pennies on your travels and I’ll love you forever!
Product Review: Sprout Skincare! Made in BK, on sale today! »
I know you guys are going to love Sprout! Why? All but one set of lip balms are vegan, plus:
All of Sprout’s ingredients are either certified organic, Fair Trade, or sourced from small, family farms. We’re committed to creating the most effective products in the most responsible way, taking all of our ethical obligations into account.
Nice, right? I know you like organic, sustainable, fair trade stuff. Sprout sent me a bunch of samples to test out and now I will tell you all about them!
Overall, I love these products. I tried the vegan lip balm first and it’s nice. Not too heavy like you’ve got icky wax caked on. Then I tried the cleanser. It smells nice, but I don’t really understand it. It’s the consistency of water so I didn’t know how to rub it in exactly. But they say it is great for sensitive skin and I imagine it really is. It’s made with only rose water, vegetable glycerin, and tea tree oil. All of their products are like that—only a few ingredients and no gross chemicals! Like their signature cream is just shea butter, extra-virgin coconut oil, and extra-virgin olive oil.
The cream is awesome! Very moisturizing. And I had weird patches of skin on my elbows when I got these products so I put the cream on them for a few days and it fixed it! Dang weird elbow skin.
But the two products I really love are the exfoliant and the body scrub. They might be too rough for sensitive skin but I imagine sensitive skin people don’t exfoliate that often? But if you like exfoliants, you can’t get better than these. The face exfoliant makes your skin so nice and smooth. And the body scrub—that stuff rules. It’s cool because it moisturizes while you’re scrubbing. That seems like such a genius idea, right? Moisturizing while your scrubbing off dead skin, totes genius.
OK, now that you have my recommendations, I have some good news for you!: Vegan Cuts, everyone’s favorite site for deals on vegan stuff, is having a sale on Sprout starting TODAY!* It’s only for three days so get on that more sooner than later. And get some of that exfoliant!
PS: who else loves the packaging? I’m totally into it!
*Someone pointed out that there’s a Vegan Cuts banner next to this post—they are part of our new vegan-friendly advertising push! That’s not why I linked though, I don’t make any money linking to them. I waited until there was a sale on Sprout to do my review because I know you guys like a sale and like instant gratification.
