Source: New SF veg restaurant opens today!  »

And Vi’s got the scoop over on Bay Area Bites. We’re intrigued by this somewhat insane concept, and plan on checking it out soon. We do know that all the desserts are vegan because they’re from Wholesome Bakery. Aaaand, that’s about all we know. Oh, except the menu pretty much has every type of food ever on it, and they employ something called “color therapy.” Let’s do this, you wacky hippies.

Reports coming soon, and let us know if you check it out!

The lovely Mandy of Wholesome Bakery is hosting a fundraiser bakesale and street food party on Saturday, Oct. 16 at La Victoria Bakery to help her brother Nick pay for medical costs related to his brain cancer recovery. Seriously, these two are amazing and making it happen and Oh! they’re both VEGAN! We need to show up and support them and eat tasty-ass food and yeah, let’s do this!
We have confirmation from Mandy that vegan goodies will be represented with treats from Wholesome Bakery, Fat Bottom Bakery, Mission Mini’s, Bike Basket Pies, and Sour Flour! And that’s just the start of it; there will be lots of tasty vegan street cart eats in the evening as well! Let us party and get fed and fat for a good cause and feel great about ourselves and the world and maybe even all get naked and make out after! Yes?
The bakesale is Saturday, Oct. 16 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and the street food party goes from 6 to 10 p.m. La Victoria is at 2937 24th St. at Alabama Street.

Sticky Toffee Sandwich Cookies with cream filling at Wholesome Bakery.
Now you owe me your firstborn. I’ll name it Borg if it’s a girl, or Sheryl if it’s a boy. The primary rearing will be done by my dog, Hazel. No, it’s for the best.

La Victoria Bakery has Wholesome Bakery Treats!  »

La Victoria is now selling daily deliciousness from Wholesome Bakery (which will open a retail location in Bernal Heights in April!! Vegan bakeries, MAKING IT HAPPEN!)! This includes stuff like CHOCOLATE TUXEDO CUPCAKES and CARROT CAKE CUPCAKES. Vegan cupcakes DO IT TO ME ONE MORE TIME.

I had this super-weird dream last night that I was sitting in the front room of my apartment eating a delicious cupcake from a new bakery in the Mission when a bullet flew through my front window and lodged in my shoulder. I did not stop eating. Anyway, point is, pretty sure I’m gonna get shot through the shoulder pretty soon because I’ll be eating those cupcakes on the regular. Or maybe I just have some unresolved food issues/should move out of the Mission. THERAPY! WHAT’S THAT! WHO’S HE!?

Wholesome Bakery to open in new Bernal Heights Marketplace!  »

Big news. Wholesome Bakery is looking to go legit. Currently part of the Street Food Revolution, it’s an entirely vegan bakery (on wheels). BUT NOT FOR LONG. They will soon OPEN EVERY DAY FOR US TO BUY DELICIOUS VEGAN BAKED GOODS PRAISE BE in the new Bernal Heights Marketplace. They are shooting to open by the first of the year and we’re all very excited. With vegan bakeries on a race to set up a shop in SF, we all win.

BRING IT, CUPCAKES.

Vegan Halloween candy, Oprah (!), weekend events, and FINALLY: findings from Japanese whaling research! All in this week’s link-o-rama!  »

Meaverly's computer is out of commission right now (ugh computers are such pieces of shit, except this one, i love you, computer, you are very attractive, please don't explode on me) and so I'm taking over this ship. Get ready to crash into the rocks! Gloriously!

HERE WE GO:

Natalie Portman is gonna be on Top Chef. WILL IT BE AN ALL-VEGAN EPISODE, now that she is recently vegan!? I mean, we think she is but we’ve been confused before! Here’s hoping the episode is totally vegan but we’re not planning on it because OMG COOKING VEGAN FOOD NIGHTMARE HOW WILL WE FIND FLAVOR WITHOUT USING BABY BLOOD!?!? Didn’t they once have a Quickfire challenge where they had to cook fellow contestant’s children? I’m pretty sure that was in Season 3.

Even though we’re nearing the end of October, Vegan MoFo is still in full swing! If you’re interested in winning some awesome handmade cups & dishes, head to Vessels & Wares to enter! You have to put down your favorite blog entry and PLEASE GOD let it be one from Vegansaurus because I’m like srsly close to the edge today.

Vegan chef Tal Ronnen was on Oprah. THAT IS CORRECT. Now, his book is the 3rd best selling thing on ALL OF AMAZON. Such is the power of the mighty, mighty O. IF you missed it, you can check out his recipes from the show and BUY HIS BOOK. Because it’s really great. And we want him to beat out Sarah Palin and take the #1 spot on Amazon! YOU CANNOT LET SARAH PALIN WIN. I need you to fight like we did back in 2008, people.

Remember when the UN Report, LIvestock’s Long Shadow, came out and everyone was terrified and disgusted? Well, apparently that report grossly underestimates exactly how bad animal agriculture is for the earth. Blarg.

Wayne Pacelle, head honcho of HSUS, posted a great blog entry on 50 things you can do for animals. Definitely worth a read and then TAKE SOME ACTION, LAZY.

Speaking of lists, Rory Freeman has a great one up at Crazy Sexy Life. It’s all about how to be a better person and it’s not all schmaltzy and lame, it’s full of good advice. NOW IF ONLY I COULD TAKE IT.

FINALLY, the results from all the Japanese whaling research (read: killing whales and not doing any research) are in: whales eat krill; and, you can’t inject whale sperm into a cow egg and get a hybrid whale-cow. SERIOUSLY. If this makes you really mad—and it must because you have a brain and a heart—donate to Sea Shepherd so that they can get better at doing what they’re doing because even if they look crazy sometimes (read: almost 100 percent of the time), they are the only ones out there doing this and they will get better.

VegNews has up an awesome definitive guide to vegan Halloween candy because we’re all totally fat around here and gotta have it.

You’ve probably for sure seen this but if not, it’s a HOUND DOG hanging with an ORANGUTAN. Watch it and you’ll want to gouge out your eyeballs when you’re done because you’ll never see something so great again. And you’re into self-mutilation. I guess you’d need to have those two things going for you.

The long awaited, Vegan Cookies Invade Your Cookie Jar, isn’t available on Amazon yet but Cosmo’s Vegan Shoppe has it if you need it gotta have it right now. Which, you might because COOKIES!!!

WEEKEND EVENTS WOO!
If you’re all about the street food, there is an event in the Mission on Saturday, Oct. 24th. I can’t tell exactly what it is, film screenings, mainly, I think. There will be lots of food carts on the scene, many vegan friendly. No guarantees obviously b/c those crazy cart food people can change at any moment because nobody is regulating their shit but here’s hoping! I know Wholesome Bakery is all-vegan and they’ll be there so yeah WOO!

Rod Rotundi, he of the BEST NAME EVER, is promoting his new book, Raw Food for Real People, also on Saturday from 3 to 4 p.m. at Omnivore Books. It’s cool that OMNIvore Books is doing a veg event so let’s all show up and turn it out for the vegans and maybe they’ll do more in the future! Oh also, there will totally be free food at this event so I’m gearing up by not eating today (lie) and most of the day tomorrow (lie).

This weekend in the citay by the baaaay…  »

Alternately, fun stuff you might enjoy if you’re a vegan in San Francisco this weekend WOO!

Friday, July 10th

Them crafty street food folk are at it again and this time they’re playing matchmatcker with Street Food for Singles (or coupled people who bring a single friend! but what about polyamorous freaky type folks? WHAT ABOUT THEM???) There will be plenty of vegan food on hand from Magic Curry Kart, Sexy Soup Lady, Wholesome Bakery (ALL VEGAN BAKERY CART!) and Bike Basket Pies (our fave!) so SINGLE VEGANS, get out there and do some carnivore converting! Take one for the team, ladies! Think how many dudes you can convert with the power of your singular vadge! I’m gonna puke! Anyway, they’ll most likely be on Linda st. at 19th st. in the Mission but follow one of them on twitter to find out for sure. 7:30p until they run out of eats/cops shut their asses down.

Saturday, July 11th

Our favorite shelter dog savers, Rocket Dog Rescue is having an adoption fair during the Bay area Derby Girls “Duel on the Docks”! Chicks on wheels and dogs being hella cute? You don’t want anything else, trust me! Oh and for food, they sell vegan hot dogs but the buns aren’t vegan but I guess you can eat it without one and just look hella creepy and pervy. OR bring your own and maybe give the rest to the dudes selling hot dogs to give to other vegans?? Oh and don’t forget to request vegan buns (hot) for the next event! If enough people ask, change will come! This is America, people! 6:30p to 10:30p at at Fort Mason.

SF VEGAN PROM WOO! 7:30p to 11:00p at a.Muse Gallery.

Sunday, July 12th

JACKSHIT. Unless you’re having a party or something?

AND FINALLY, if you’re looking to get out of town this weekend, the prices at The Stanford Inn are cheaper than they’ve been in 7 years! Check out our review here and then make your reservations here. OH ALSO, they have THREE NEW BABY LLAMAS. Um, I can’t believe you’re still in San Francisco. I am disgusted.
